Emerging Markets Portfolio Manager – External Debt recruitment

External Debt is Ashmore’s longest established investment theme with a track record dating back to 1992. The theme invests primarily in sovereign external emerging market debt, mainly through US$ denominated bonds with some exposure to other G-7 country currencies. Specialist asset classes within the overall theme provide a diversified range of return opportunities along with cross-investment in other debt investment themes – local currencies, corporate and special situations. As at 31 Dec 11, Ashmore managed US$13.6bn in dedicated external debt products split across: Eastern Europe (28%), Asia Pacific (22%), Latin America (39%) and Middle East and Africa (11%). Performance of the Broad External Debt theme as at 31-Dec-11 showed annualised gross return of 20.1% since inception (Oct-92) and an annualised 3 year return of 18.5%.

Applicants should be London based, and must have specific experience in Emerging Markets; being able to demonstrate a genuine passion, enthusiasm, knowledge and expertise in EM countries or regions from a sovereign/quasi sovereign investment background. We are interested in individuals who have managed money, either as a trader or as a fund manager and from either the sell or buy side; however all applicants need excellent analytical skills to be able to identify fundamental value across countries globally and their respective assets, including at a macro and political level.
