Employee Relations Advisor I
The Employee Relations Advisor I provides consultation and support to employees and management as part of the Employee Relations field support team. The Employee Relations Advisor I will coach and guide managers through performance management and investigations and advise on policy interpretation, best practices, outcomes and closure. This role is also responsible for hearing employee concerns and determining and advising on best practices for resolution. This employee relations support is provided primarily by phone as our customers are in remote locations set in various states. This role requires the incumbent to use a high degree of independent judgment and to be able to execute quality decision making in a fast paced and high volume environment.
- Partners with field operations management on employee relations matters. Guides field management on conducting proper investigations and provide options and advice for outcomes.
- Acts as a consultant advising on coaching opportunities and/or disciplinary action and terminations. Collaborates with other Employee Relations Advisors, Manager, or business partners on complex or escalated issues.
- Collaborates with employees and management to communicate and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and government regulations.
- Actively listens and documents issues, concerns and recommendations and uses judgment to respond appropriately.
- Investigates and responds to a variety of issues including employee complaints, harassment allegations, civil rights complaints, wage/hour violations, written correspondence, financial misconduct violations and Ethics Hotline concerns.
- Interprets/clarifies and communicates Knowledge Universe policies and procedures.
- Maintains a manner and philosophy consistent with company vision.
- Presents oneself professionally at all times. Instills trust and confidence by maintaining objectivity and clearly communicating rationale behind recommendations.
- Other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to respond to a variety of customers/issues in a fast paced environment while maintaining a focus on customer service.
- 2-4 years Human Resources generalist or relatable experience required
- 1 year experience in Employee Relations preferred
- 1 year of management in a child care setting may substitute for 1 year of HR experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field may substitute for 1 year of HR experience
- Proficiency with Word and Excel required and PowerPoint preferred
- Acts with a high level of integrity at all times.
- Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, coaching managers and employees on the interpretation of policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of state and federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.
- Ability to identify and access potential risk in simple and complex matters
- Ability to manage a high volume workload and prioritize time sensitive issues as they arise.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with company guidelines.
- Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult and emotional issues.
- Maintains the confidentiality of Knowledge Universe and customer information.
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with extensive use of the telephone and computer, which may include sitting for extended periods of time.
- Position requires a high degree of adaptability. Incumbent will be faced with a variety of issues on a day to day basis and will be expected to respond to these issues appropriately.
