New Ecology is seeking an engineer with experience in designing and implementing energy efficiency upgrades for a rapidly expanding energy efficiency practice. Description of Position: 
The Energy Engineer will be responsible for leading a team that is evaluating the energy performance of existing buildings and designing improvements to the HVAC systems, other building systems, building envelope and management practices to dramatically reduce energy consumption in multifamily housing.

Expected Duties:

The Energy Engineer will:

·         conduct building and HVAC system assessments;

·         analyze energy consumption;

·         develop recommendations for energy efficiency and building system upgrades;

·         complete cost-benefit analysis of recommended upgrades;

·         prepare audit reports;

·         cost estimate energy efficiency retrofit projects;

·         prepare design and bid specification packages; and

·         conduct commissioning and quality control oversight of completed projects. 

 

The Energy Engineer will also review new construction and substantial rehab plans and specifications prepared by third party engineers to make recommendations for system design changes and ensure the design meets project goals. 

 

There will be significant opportunity for developing new and better approaches to evaluating and monitoring building performance.

 

Work will be statewide in Massachusetts.  Significant time will split between office and field.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and at least five years of experience in evaluation of building mechanical systems and other building systems. Licensing as a Professional Engineer is preferred.  Specific experience as an energy manager (or equivalent combination of related educational and work experience) and professional designations specifically related to energy management (such as Certified Energy Manager) are desirable.  A demonstrated ability to be responsible for projects and deliverables, and to be creative in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes for improving building performance is expected. 

The work will require outdoor work, the ability to conduct complete inspections of buildings including accessing basements and roofs, and climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to handle and carry equipment.  A valid driver’s license is also required. 

The job will also require proficiency with Microsoft Office.  Energy modeling experience and is also desirable.

Preference will be given to candidates that qualify as Section 3 residents in accordance with 24 CFR part 135.

Compensation and Hours:
Salary commensurate with experience.  Position is 40 hours/week and includes a full benefits package.
