Energy Trading Pricing Analyst required – Global Oil Major – London recruitment

They are actively involved in the trading of physical gas, power, crude oils and refined products in the UK and Europe as well as a range of paper derivative products such as swaps, futures and options.

This role will be the single point of contact regarding forward curve design, daily price quality assurance testing, and manual price curve upload process for the Europe and Asia trading organizations. 

Primary Functions/Responsibilities

• Maintain automated UK/US spreadsheet price uploads.

• Utilise and further develop price integrity checks to ensure that batch loaded forward curves are accurate representations of the associated commodity markets.

• Provide a single point of contact for price curve support requests. Responsible for working with IT, Finance and Risk Management groups to ensure that curve requests are completed in a timely manner and that the resulting curves meet the deal valuation and associated accounting requirements for the Commercial activity.

• Ensure consistency in forward curve designs across different target systems, so that physical and financial positions at the same product-location are marked to market in the same manner.

• Develop price Quality Assurance checks to ensure that key trade exposures are valued against the correct prices. These QA checks should support both end of day price upload and the following morning Profit/Loss and VaR calculation review.

• Work with position control, risk, and finance analysts to review Profit/Loss, Mark to Market, and VaR results for accuracy with regard to the input prices.

Experience required:

• Relevant experience within the mid/back office duties of a global energy trading organization, including the term pricing structure of the commodities markets, Mark to Market valuation of physical positions / financially settled derivative instruments, Value at Risk , and the data requirements associated with valuation-related accounting.

• The position requires some familiarity with standard option valuation techniques and associated option model inputs (e.g., volatilities, correlations).

• Experience maintaining complex Excel models using macros and visual basic. Experience with price delivery infrastructure, deal capture, and risk management systems.

• Familiarity with commodities typically traded by the Europe Asia trade groups, mainly gas and power.

• Excellent interpersonal and team skills – this role is part of an international team

• Very analytical, detail oriented and organized.

• Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree preferred, a reasonable mathematical content to the degree is also beneficial but not required.
