Eng 2, Network Engineering
Tasks:
- Determines and implements corporate communications network and
information
technology standards.
- Troubleshoots and resolves complex network issues.
- Determines and documents internal telecommunications systems.
- Designs and configures telecommunications systems.
- Establishes and maintains network performance objectives.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters
of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work
nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The Network Engineer II position will be responsible for infrastructure and routing design, network planning and strategy, performance engineering and optimization of the Datacenters. The Comcast datacenters combines the following services - data, voice, and video - onto a single converged infrastructure. The Senior IP Engineer will also provide expertise in real time analysis and diagnosis of network problems, configuration and operation of datacenter network devices
Job Responsibilities:
- Generate network configurations to support market augments and new DataCenter designs.
- Create and document high-level and detailed network designs for new CRANs, and augmentation of existing networks
- Develop and implement routing architectures for the roll-out of data, video, and voice products
- Assist in the development and planning for the roll-out of future hardware and software versions of datacenter network devices.
- Take the lead engineering role on assigned interdepartmental technical projects
- Provide last tier On-Call support, focused on isolating and resolving network outages
- Build relationships with assigned business units, Deployment units and or markets through regular communication and site visits.
- Provide technical training to operational units on datacenter technologies and features that are currently deployed in the network or will be in the future
- Test and deploy DSCP across the datacenter network in support of network security and QOS for datacenter traffic
- Work independently with little supervision while managing assigned projects and ensuring timely delivery of services
- Communicate applicable design guidelines and provide guidance to markets to ensure compliance

- Generally requires 2-5 years related experience
Qualifications/Education:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or
a related field. The equivalent in related work experience and self study may be substituted. CCIE/CCNP certification preferred.
Experience:
- At least 3 yrs direct experience focused on design and routing expertise, forecasting, and implementation of IP router based high-speed technology
- In-depth knowledge and working experience in layer 3 routing protocols - RIPv2, OSPF or IS-IS, and BGP
- Specific knowledge of Cisco routers, especially the 7600, CRS-1, 6500, 3500, 2900 series is preferred. Broad knowledge of Cisco uBR, Arris C4 and Motorola BSR CMTS's would be a plus.
- Broad knowledge of VoIP technology and standards (e.g. SIP, COPS, SCTP, MGCP) a plus
- Knowledge of PSTN service and implementation (e.g. CALEA, SS7, TCAP) a plus
- Experience implementing DSCP based ACL on Cisco platform a plus
- Experience in the implementation of multicasting a plus
- Expertise in scripting languages a plus
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative to build relationships both internally and externally with minimal supervision/direction from management
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects as well as lead small, directed projects.
