Eng 3, Network Engineering
Tasks:
- Develops practices and procedures for network installation,
maintenance and operation.
- Develops and implements test and acceptance criteria for network
elements.
- Schedules equipment activations, customer-affecting network
maintenance - develops documents of customer networks for network users.
Meets with potential customers, designs solutions, works with vendors
on pricing and implements solutions that are adaptable to customer need
changes.
- Exercises judgment during incident management, site design, network
configuration and network activation to ensure efficient use of funds
and time.
- Designs network site planning for multiple regional network sites.
- Represents Regional Company interests with providers to ensure timely
delivery of circuits.
- Develops and maintains network element documentation and inventory.
Maintains appropriate inventory or network spare equipment for rapid
restoration.
- Orders, tracks and reports on all internal and external wired and
wireless connection activation activities.
- Develops cost proposal documents.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters
of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work
nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The Network Engineer 3 will primarily be responsible for the infrastructure, core routing and application delivery design within the Comcast data center network. Additional duties will include design, performance engineering, real time analysis and optimization of the existing data center network. The Comcast data center network combines the following services - data, voice, and video - onto a single converged IP infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design and build core routing /application architectures for data center network infrastructures
- Perform sustained engineering duties to support data center system and application services - data, video, and voice products
- Create and document all high-level and detailed network designs
- Monitor network capacity, plan and implement data center augments as needed
- Model network capacity for failure scenarios to proactively predict routing and topology changes
- Participate in the development and planning for the roll-out of future hardware and software versions of data center network devices.
- Assist in efforts to automate internal processes/tools for departmental engineering tasks
- Participate in assigned interdepartmental technical projects
- Provide On-Call support, focused on isolating and resolving network outages
- Build relationships with systems and application teams through regular communication and site visits
- Communicate applicable design guidelines and provide guidance to system and application teams to ensure compliance

- Bachelors Degree or Equivalent
- Engineering, Computer Science

- Generally requires 5-8 years related experience
Qualifications/Education:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. The equivalent in related work experience and self study may be substituted.
- F5-SEL,SEG/F5-PCL,PCG certification preferred.
- BCLE/BCLP preferred.
- CCIE/CCNP certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of one or more scripting languages is a plus.
Experience:
- 5 to 8 years experience focused on forecasting and implementation of IP router based high-speed technology
- Working knowledge and experience in layer 3 routing protocols - RIPv2, OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP
- Working knowledge and experience in layer 4 through 7 - HTTP, SSL, GTM, LTM and iRules
- Specific knowledge of Cisco and Juniper routers, especially the 7600, 6500, CRS-1, MX960 series is preferred
- Specific knowledge of F5 and Brocade Application Delivery Controllers, especially F5 3900 and Brocade ADX4000
- Broad knowledge of Cisco and Juniper configurations would be a plus
- Broad knowledge of F5 and Brocade configurations would be a plus
- Broad knowledge of F5 Enterprise Manager and Brocade Ironview Network Manager would be a plus
- Experience implementing DSCP based ACL on Cisco platform a plus
- Experience in the implementation of multicasting and or layer 2 multicast a plus
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative to build relationships both internally and externally with minimal supervision/direction from management
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects
