Tasks:
- Drives issues through closure engaging all appropriate resources.
Leads technical bridges and provides troubleshooting direction.
Functions with great autonomy and independently provides guidance and
recommended solutions to complex technical issues within and outside the
department.
- Acts as an advocate for Engineering Operations procedures, policies,
and processes. Ensures projects are fully integrated into the operations
environment including lifecycle problem management from front line CARE
through Engineering.
- Creates data and metric systems to track operational workflows;
maintains records of results and feedback. Analyzes data and metrics,
identifies problem areas, and provides actionable insight to management.
- Provides input to engineering and vendors on defects and required
enhancements. Provides consultative direction and develops long-term
objectives and plans. Determines resources, technology, and course of
action to achieve results.
- Reports performance related to operations and project status to
management. Identifies and recommends areas requiring change or
modification.
- Performs complex and routine maintenance tests for designated areas of
engineering. Identifies and isolate issues. Ensures that all
maintenance is properly validated to minimize subscriber impact to
(ideally) zero.
- Plans and directs multiple projects, often spanning different
engineering disciplines within the organization, to develop strategies,
proposals, and communications plans.
- Leads the integration of projects into operations including
instrumentation, automation, standardization, and methods/procedures.
Applies expert engineering methodologies in one or more engineering
areas
- Advocates for internal/external customers' business leads--must
influence and drive Comcast executives to make new investments in
technology and opportunities. Serves as internal expert within
department relative to the most complex development problems and
provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
- Provides functional, team, and program leadership on a regular basis
on multiple projects, spanning different engineering disciplines within
the organization. Takes the lead on developing new principles and
concepts.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters
of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work
nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

This Principal Engineer role is responsible for leading and improving, as a technical expert, the continuous improvement and availability of the Comcast national IP network core. The National Operations organization is accountable for deploying and stabilizing new code, technologies, services, and protocols in support of Voice, Video, Commercial, Data, and Network services in a 7*24 environment. The Principle leads standardization, automation, and service focused instrumentation development initiatives, provides subject matter expertise for challenging and complex routing environments and engages with engineering, architecture and supplier development teams to resolve unique network problems at unprecedented scales. As a partner with engineering, suppliers and regional organizations the goal of this role is to drive continuous improvement for one of the world's largest converged IP networks.
Typical challenges and opportunities include, planning and directing project teams and troubleshooting unique and complex internetworking design issues. This technical leader is a natural mentor, proactively provides technical solutions to challenging network problems and is a peer participant in new product development and implementation. Core Responsibilities:

- Deep knowledge of design and operation of commercial, voice, video, commercial, and data services across IP networks.
- Experience across networking gear with applicable depth across protocols, multi and unicast, MPLS, IP management, DNS, traffic management, and sparing.
- Demonstrated ability to partner across broader organizations, presentation skills, and strong communicator.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, multi-cultural, customer-oriented environment.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers, management, vendors, and other key stakeholders to achieve goals.
