Engineer
Seagate is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer with
focused expertise in Cloud Storage Systems Engineering. This position is
a unique opportunity to work with various server and storage systems for our Enterprise
Cloud customers. This position will possess expert level knowledge of
Cloud storage and computing systems, experience with virtualized storage and
large scale-out data center infrastructure. This position uses scientific
knowledge and formal systems to find practical solutions to complex storage
problems. Conceives and develops solutions to engineering programs through the
application of professionally accepted engineering techniques, practices
and procedures. The position reports directly to the Director of Cloud Strategy,
Product Line Management. In this role, the PAE will be responsible for:
- Working directly with Cloud
customers and broadly across multiple Seagate functions to provide technical expertise
in orchestrating and leading technical pre-sales and delivery of holistic,
optimized storage solutions. - Providing technical
leadership in the evaluation, design, delivery and qualification of new storage
design solutions. - Serves as a technical
expert on various storage systems for Enterprise within Seagate. - Influencing the shaping of
future products by contributing to the framework used across multiple products
or systems and provides multi-layered technical expertise for next generation
initiatives. - Determines system specifications, input/output processes and working
parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinates design of
subsystems and integration of total system. Identifies, analyzes and
resolves program support deficiencies. - Mapping and translating
challenges and requirements into product requirements through engagement with
customers’ Cloud architects and design teams. - Understanding complex Cloud
storage and compute infrastructure and applying technology and product portfolio
knowledge to solve customer problems in a consultative manner. - Works on issues that impact design/selling success or address future
concepts, products or technologies. Creates formal networks with key
decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the
organization. - Articulating the advantages
of product optimization and technology solutions as well as explain the
competitive advantage and ROI achieved through various alternatives. - Working broadly within a
team environment across multiple disciplines.
Requirements:
- MS
in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or other relevant
engineering discipline and a minimum of 15 years of systems storage/computing
experience. - Minimum 6 years experience with operating systems (preferably
Linux), file systems, networking protocols, storage interface protocols,
software storage stacks, and storage system level design and modeling. - Strong technical foundation in storage hardware and software, and Cloud
infrastructure architectures and applications. - Strong technical expertise in virtualization and distributed file
systems. - Experience in motivating and leading teams, influencing action and
opinion of others and managing conflict. - Ability
to travel international and domestic travel up to 50%. - Critical
thinking skills. - Excellent
communication, motivation and influencing skills across a global organization.
