Job Summary : Provides engineering plans, basic and routine analyses, tools, and improvements to Hub, Outbound (OB), Other Transfer Point (OTP), and Linehaul (LH) Operations for FedEx Ground (FXG). Assists in supporting department projects by identifying process improvements and enhancements. Essential Functions : Analyzes performance data within engineering. Utilizes engineering tools and software to analyze data and answers basic engineering questions. Researches, analyzes, and effectively consolidates technical or engineering related information and presents for management review. Prepares, with management guidance, accurate expenditure proposals and/or cost justification analysis. Formulates and presents document research, progress, and results. Interacts with team members and internal customers. Applies project management fundamentals and concepts with management guidance. Develops progress reports, meeting minutes, and field communication memos for management review. Develops and updates engineering plans based on forecasted package volume, volume availability, package distribution, dock layouts, incompatibles processing plans, contingency plans, historical data and sort lengths. Analyzes LH movement with LH department through conducting Dispatch Arrival Report (DAR) analysis to review all lanes to determine if dispatch times can be moved up for volume availability. Reviews and compares daily service analysis to previous day activities, develops customized reports for analysis (e.g., root cause analysis) for continuous improvements using engineering principles, and communicates solution(s), operational issue(s), and enhancement(s) to field management. Assists in preparation and/or prepares cost benefit analysis for material handling justifications by conducting detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis to determine the feasibility of purchasing new operations equipment. Conducts sort observations and makes recommendations to package handlers and managers on methods to increase productivity and decrease damages. Audits load factor by observing load quality. Monitors daily reports to ensure proper load methods are followed to reduce partials. Trains managers on engineering principles, methods, and procedures (e.g., volume availability, engineering metrics, and push vs. pull thruput). Performs various analyses on cost reductions through the utilization of sound engineering principles resulting in productivity and quality enhancements. Monitors staffing plan and modifies engineering plans to meet Hub, OB, OTP, and total productivity goals. Monitors dock Transportation Management System (TMS) compliance and ensures sort windows are accurate in the system and the Hub, OB, and/or OTP are following prescribed dispatch schedules. Implements, trains, and monitors new program rollouts for FedEx Ground Pittsburgh General Headquarters (PGH) with management guidance. Troubleshoots accounts that are not at shipment integrity goals and performs root cause analysis to identify problem. Participates in Hub, OB and/or OTP projects (e.g., Quality Driven Management (QDM)). Minimum Education : Bachelor?s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field required; in addition to Minimum Experience, high school diploma or GED and four (4) years experience in applicable technical area or related area is accepted in lieu of degree. Minimum Experience : None required. Required Skills - Abilities and/or Licensure : Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications. Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex and/or confidential information. Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals. Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs. Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations. Ability to travel up to 75%. Knowledge of concepts related to Material Handling, Computer Aided Design, and Business Object preferred. Preferred Qualifications : Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering or quantitative discipline (e.g. statistics). Other technical majors will be considered with related experience.
