ENGINEER II (Civil)

Under limited supervision, in a team environment, provides civil and mechanical engineering support as needed for various plant operation and maintenance projects. Perform preliminary engineering on new projects and assist with the investigation of plant problems, equipment failures, and repair or replacement procedures as required. Performs regulatory and compliance activities and operational investigations in areas of responsibility. May provide construction management services for plant betterment projects in area of responsibility. Required Skills Knowledge of: Civil engineering principles; application of computers in engineering work; electrical utility construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment; advanced mathematics including trigonometry, calculus, and vectors. Prefer FERC engineering guidelines and licensing regulations; hydroelectric power plant operations and maintenance; contracting procedures and construction practices; Corps of Engineers 404 permitting process and State permits. Knowledge of open and closed conduit flow; heat transfer; welding processes; and machining processes. Skills in: Performing technical research to solve problems; developing and organizing methods of solving problems; evaluating the cost effectiveness of projects, processes, and solutions; and performing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to: Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports; break tasks into small components and ensure all details are included in the finished product; work in teams and maintain effective working relationships with other departments; read and develop detailed engineering drawings, diagrams, and specifications; work independently; and use judgment and initiative in resolving problems. Ability to coordinate multiple activities and priorities. Required Experience MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Prefer B.S. in Civil Engineering; and additional interdisciplinary classes or certifications in areas that apply to hydroelectric generation processes. Experience 2 years Engineering experience. Prefer 5 years of civil engineering experience, with experience in fabrication, welding, machining and using 3D Modeling software. Licenses Certifications Valid driver s license with acceptable driving record according to driving requirements of the position. Prefer EIT certification/ P.E certification.
