Position Summary:

Responsible for the lead technical role in performing system engineering for automation process control projects based on programmable controllers, drives, motor control centers, operator/field device, instrumentation, etc. This includes system design, system engineering, hardware engineering, programming and factory testing. Direct supervise and review all assigned engineering personnel and their assigned tasks for a project. Assign tasks, monitor performance, review results, coordinate efforts, and track hours usage on project. Prepare and organize assigned basis and work closely with the Project Manager to maintain and lower project costs, while providing the highest level of quality. Start-up assignments on an as required basis.

Involvement with orders/projects in the range of $100K to $10M, with the quantity of orders/projects per year in the range of 1-10.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Functional
Analyzes customer's requirements to determine the optimal process control system solution. Determine applicable control configuration/architecture. Make recommendations for improvements and assist Project Manager to propose these to the customer.

Performs conceptual process control systems design, determination of process control system strategy, design of assembled programming.

Review project hardware/software for compliance with applicable codes/standards and assure personnel/machinery safety practices are fully implemented.

Provides on-site process control system start-up, as required.

Attends, participates in the preparation and presentation of technical papers in industry symposiums and trade shows, as applicable.

Leadership
Assist Project Manager with technical issues and determine changes which may/can have commercial/scheduling impact.

Provides a leading role in technical activities and will direct the activities of others assigned to customer projects. Take lead role in organizing, assigning, reviewing software development, direct functional specification development and planning for integrated customer witness testing.

Provide mentoring for entry level engineers (EIT) in the area of process automation.

This position conducts tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, etc.) as well as Rockwell Automation policies and procedures.

Business
Marketing: Provide technical assistance to the commercial engineers to create, update and maintain SSB’s technical literature in the area of Process Automation.

Pre-Sales: Prepares material/hours cost estimates for customer process control system quotations. Lead and organize technical efforts, including other systems engineers, on proposal preparation.

Execution: Working with Engineering Manager, develop a training plan to maintain and enhance the engineering competency within the group in the area of process automation.

Ensures thorough familiarity with policies and procedures relating to Standards of Business Conduct and trains and motivates subordinates in the importance of full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies and procedures.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Degree in engineering or science or equivalent technical education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

At least ten years of experience in Industrial Process Control Systems, with specific experience in pulp paper process automation and/or water reclamation waste-water process automation using Rockwell Automation Loigx 5000 and FTView Client Server HMI

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires mental concentration and visual acuity to utilize computer terminals, approximately 40% of the work time. Additionally, physical capability to effectively negotiate impediments typical to a jobsite/construction site for start-up efforts.
