Engineer, Substation Work Methods Job in Albany, New York US
National Grid is seeking an Engineer for our Substation Work Methods Department located in Albany, NY. In this role you will provide Substation Electrical Equipment technical expertise and support to Asset Management, Substation Engineering, and Customer Operations to maintain critical substation components.
Responsibilities:
o Provide condition assessments for input in the capital project process and for monitoring of maintenance related activities based on analysis of electrical testing, oil analysis, service bulletins, and condition assessments reports to ensure equipment operation and system reliability.
o Work closely with manufacturers and vendors in the selection, application, design analysis, manufacturing inspections, transportation, installation, testing, and energization of major substation equipment.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school and working towards/holder of the Registered Professional Engineering License.
- 5-8 years professional development in an engineering field.
- Proficiency with PC, abilities include Microsoft Office suite or equivalent. Computer software: word processing, spreadsheet and email.
- Ability to work overnight including nights/weekends/holidays as necessary.
- Ability to travel overnight outside of your normal work area.
- Knowledge of :
- relevant industry practices, standards and legislation.
- 3-phase power system theory/operations.
- NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NESC, SATM, ISO, EPA, ASTM, ASME standards.
- power transformers; load tap changers; potential and current transformer; MV, HV, and EHV power circuit breakers; operation of oil and SF6 equipment; metal clad switchgear; circuit switchers; disconnect and air break switches; series and shunt capacitors; reactors; AC and DC controls; batteries; PLC’s; HIM; SCADA; Metering; System Protection; hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
