DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is for a lead opto-mechanical hardware design engineer. Candidates must have experience with precision/stable mounting of optics for airborne laser and optical systems. The successful candidate is expected to provide technical guidance, leadership, and support with a team of engineers, designers, and technicians in support of both small and large scale programs. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of optical and precision mounting techniques, heat transfer, structural mechanics and dynamics, as well as mechanical hardware design and fabrication techniques. Experience in thermal management and fluid mechanics is also desired. Successful candidates will provide hands-on technical design leadership and support to the project using Solidworks CAD Software for design, and analysis software (e.g. Cosmos, ANSYS, ZMAX, etc.) to supplement hand calculations for heat transfer, structural, modal analyses, and the resultant optical changes. The successful candidate is expected to apply knowledge and experience to lead the mechanical aspects of the project to completion on budget and on schedule.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to:
*Determine technical objectives and develop innovative, practical solutions to advanced technical engineering problems.
*Address complex and difficult technical issues requiring highly creative approaches, drawing on advanced engineering concepts.
*Function in a leadership role for the project, and provide technical direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff.
*Formulate plans and guide the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including design, procurement, assembly and testing, deployment including integration, resource requirements, documentation, compliance and safety.
*Plan and coordinate the maintenance of engineering solutions including, documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solution(s) in an evolving environment.
*Represent the organization as the prime technical/project contact for the assigned project.
*Plan for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
*Participate in the development of expansion of existing business opportunities.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*Typically requires a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD in Engineering or related technical field and progressively complex engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years experience with a Bachelors degree, ten or more years experience with a Masters degree, and seven or more with a PhD. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
*Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
*In addition, must have demonstrated experience in fluid systems and fluid flow analysis, heat transfer, hardware design and fabrication, and technical leadership experience.
*Candidates must have significant experience with Solidworks and Ansys software.
*Must possess:
*(1) the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment;
*(2) strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals;
*(3) the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact;
*(4) and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
*Must be:
*(1) customer focused;
*(2) able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment; and,
*(3) able to work extended hours and travel as required.
*Must be able to obtain/maintain a secret level security clearance.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
*Original work published in professional engineering journals.
*Experience with flight qualified precision mechanical, optical, and laser systems, high vacuum systems, and manufacturing design.
*Hold an active secret level security clearance.
