Engineering and Physical Sciences Researcher Job in Fort George G Meade, Maryland US

Responsibilities

This job posting is for a position working in a fiber optics group on several cutting edge projects related to high speed fiber optic transmission, optical signal processing, optical interconnects and nonlinear optics. The applicant should have research experience in a laboratory environment including experience with fiber optics, non-linear optics, ultrafast pulsed lasers, design and implementation of optical experiments and software development for experiment control and data analysis.

1. Modeling, design, testing and fabrication of optical waveguide devices such as: waveguides, splitters, couplers, ring resonators, photodetectors and modulators.
2. Working independently on projects related to optical communications, optical signal processing, optical interconnects technologies and nonlinear optics.
3. Working independently in a research lab environment. Including design of experiments and analysis of results
4. Project planning and organization.
5. Presenting research results both orally and in written formats.
6. Interfacing and creating relationships with customers and constructing programs to meet customer requirements.

Qualifications

-Entry is with a high school diploma, plus 9 years experience OR Professional Engineer (PE), or Engineer in Training (EIT) plus 4 years, or an Associate's degree plus 9 years experience, OR PE, or EIT plus 4 years, or a Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience, or a post-baccalaureate certificate and 4 years of experience, or a Master's degree and 2 years of experience, or a Doctoral degree.
-Broad interests and experiences in addition to science/engineering (e.g., music, liberal arts).
- Experience on polymath projects (requiring multiple skills).
- Academic or independent research experience (e.g., running a school laboratory, serving as a research assistant).
- Technical publications, patent applications, teaching experience.
- PhD in Engineering or Physical Sciences.
- Additional experience as specified.

Pay, Benefits, Work Schedule

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Salary range: $74,872 - $136,771
