Engineering Design Manager (Orthopedic Devices) Job in San Diego, California US
A growing Medical Device Engineering Company in the Phoenix, Arizona area is looking for an Engineering Development Manager from the Medical Device Industry preferably with implantable and/or orthopedic device experience. We are working directly with the Manager. We are looking for candidates nationwide willing to relocate to the Phoenix, AZ area. Once again, the position is in the Phoenix, AZ greater area.
With the support of an Engineering Director, the Engineering Manager manages, directs, coaches, and supports engineering professionals and other development team members in the acts of planning, overseeing and executing projects associated with medical device product development. The Engineering Manager may also plan, oversee and execute projects of his/her own. In addition, the Engineering Manager will be the primary communication contact with partners in order to effectively meet project milestones, budget, and achieve high partner satisfaction. The Engineering Manager identifies, develops, and guides the performance of engineering professionals and other team members to build and maintain a highly cohesive team. The Engineering Manager directs team activities to achieve company financial goals and initiatives. The Engineering Manager may travel up to 25% according to project and company needs.
Technical Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform or guide employees in performing basic to advanced medical device product development tasks in accordance with company SOP's and FDA guidelines
- Identify design requirements and generate novel engineering solutions and provide engineering recommendations
- Conduct advanced market and intellectual property research and analysis and provide recommendations
- Produce robust engineering models and drawings using SolidWorks
- Perform engineering analyses such as stress, FEA, basic failure analysis, tolerance stack, material selection, and FMEA
Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or other related Engineering disciplines with 7 years of relevant design experience; a Master's Degree with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 5 years of experience to include prior experience with orthopedic medical device development is required
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Demonstrated ability to leverage manufacturing process and material knowledge in engineering designs
- Demonstrated history of managing to and achieving financial goals
- Effective communication abilities with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and produce novel medical device solutions
- Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and develop a product from concept to launch
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
- Well-versed in mechanical engineering fundamentals, analysis, DFM, manufacturing, materials, CAD / SolidWorks, GD and T, anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics
