Position Description:
The Laboratory Technician performs laboratory tests to assess conformance of new and existing products to engineering, marketing, industry and customer specifications.
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Lab Technician will support activities within all of Engineering.
Position Objectives:
- Set-up and conduct lab tests for product quality validation and product qualification to industry standards as well as record and document test results.
- Performs laboratory tests to assess conformance of new and existing products to engineering, marketing, industry and customer specifications.
- Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as pressure testing apparatus, tensile testing apparatus, gas flow measurement apparatus, and other equipment.
- Conducts testing of natural gas distribution products in accordance with ASTM Standard Specifications, Test Methods, and other requirements.
- Tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
- Records test results on standardized forms and writes test reports describing procedures used.
- Prepares graphs and charts.
- Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Calibrates laboratory instruments.
- Prepares samples for testing.
- Designs and assists in the building of fixtures required to conduct laboratory testing.
- Designs and assists in the building of new test equipment as needed to facilitate required testing.
