Engineering Manager

Chemical and electrical propulsion systems are key components of satellites used by our military, NASA, and commercial satellite service providers. Missions include interplanetary exploration, Earth orbit raising, and orbit maintenance for small, medium, and very large spacecraft. Aerojet is the premier supplier of these enabling propulsion systems and sub-systems.

As the leader of a propulsion engineering team, you will be involved in multiple thruster technologies and systems integration. Your focus will be on meeting customer/mission needs by leading others through robust technical planning, design, fabrication, test and verification phases. You will be expected to manage others such that they have opportunities for career growth and job satisfaction, while simultaneously producing a high quality product. At Aerojet, an Engineering Manager collaborates with multiple disciplines inside Aerojet and with our customers to deliver the hardware to make the missions possible, successful, and cost effective.

40% - Manage and perform tasks and make decisions required to design, assemble and propulsion systems to meet customer requirements and verify their suitability for the intended use. Provide feedback and interaction to show our customers that Aerojet is the best value supplier for their propulsion needs.

25% - Support proposal activities and manage internal research and development efforts. Perform technology development and road-mapping activities to maintain Aerojet’s position as the worldwide industrial leader in electric propulsion.

25% Manage a group of project engineers. Provide coaching and career development and resource assignment. Promote Mentor/Mentee pairing. Work proactively with program management team to address resource conflicts and develop needed skill sets to support technical excellence

10% - Maintain a visible, respected presence in the propulsion technical community and serve as an internal and external technical expert on propulsion systems and sub-systems.

Requires a Bachelor degree in a related technical discipline and 7 years of related experience with propulsion systems and technologies. Advanced degree and knowledge of spacecraft systems, electronics and their development are highly desired. A general knowledge of related disciplines such as material science, component selection, thermal and structural analysis, spacecraft integration, and mission planning is desirable. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, as well as high quality written and oral communication skills. This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Travel is required, as needed, within the United States to Aerojet’s customers and suppliers. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
