Engineering Manager
Reports To: Operations Manager

Tyco Flow Control Americas has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager at our Houston location.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Engineer Manager for our Flow Control product line is responsible for managing, coordinating, and directing the engineering department, responsible for maintaining and building effective staff. Prepares and executes departmental and project budgets, departmental goals that complement operational and safety targets. Perform administrative functions in developing departmental processes, develop staff, and report progress to local and distributed team. Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and processes. Provides hands on technical assistance to Manufacturing, Marketing, and Quality Assurance regarding design, applications (pre-order), Engineering (post order), performance and quality. This may include reviewing design calculations, background design data in conformance to industry standards, resolving manufacturing problems, and responding to Sales requests for engineering support.
Key Accountabilities:
- Use technical and engineering design knowledge to provide professional support to all departments.
- Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing regarding valve design. Works closely with the manufacturing team to optimize the process and value analysis without compromising design requirement or performance. Evaluates non-conformance reports and approves disposition. Reviews and recommends design revisions to improve cost and quality.
- Provide technical assistance to Quality Assurance to improve product performance and quality. Reviews external and internal problems or complaints to determine root cause and develop solutions. Assures that production, assembly, equipment, and procedures are satisfying design performance requirements.
- Provides technical assistance to Sales/Marketing regarding application, performance, customer inquiries, and specials. Reviews all sales literature for technical content and accuracy. Reviews customer specifications on purchase orders for technical requirements and product selection and assists in preparation of technical proposals and quotes. Provides Engineering responses to technical questions from customers.
- Review new designs of components for value and in accordance with sound engineering principles, industrial standards, and customer specifications.
- Review performance tests for compliance to specifications and evaluate overall effectiveness.
- The Engineering Manager is expected to ensure the department completes these tasks in a timely manner, maintaining a schedule which tracks backlog and on-time performance.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors' degree in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 10-15 years experience in a design and manufacturing environment. Valve industry or pressure retaining product is needed.
- Minimum of 5 years management or supervisory experience with strong leadership skills
- Outstanding interpersonal communication and leadership skills along with demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment throughout all levels of the global organization.
- Experience in Solid Works or equivalent CAD package. Experience in AutoCAD is a plus.
- Strong mathematical ability is vital.
- Working knowledge of engineering practices, standards, and specifications related to the valve industry.
