Engineering Manager- Vehicle Systems Integration
Job Description Eaton Corporation in Galesburg, MI has an opening for an Engineering Manager. Provide engineering management and leadership for the global Vehicle Systems Integration (VSI) engineering function in order to support business growth for commercial vehicle transmissions. Manage and develop a team of engineering professionals, project and program schedules and budgets, and provide technical direction to support key strategic initiatives. Facilitate and support cross-functional activities involving program management, marketing, business development, OEM account, technical service, customer support engineering, and transmission platform teams to ensure completion of deliverables to accomplish profit plan goals. Manage VSI engineering interface with truck and engine OEM?s to ensure appropriate integration, process control, and quality deployment with targeted vehicle platforms, engines, and powertrains. Serve as an ambassador for Eaton to OEMs, fleets, and the commercial vehicle industry. Essential Functions: A. Supervises and manages the department activities within the Vehicle Systems Integration engineering group, establishes priorities within the scope of the group?s responsibility, and conducts regular reviews of group projects and activities to ensure delivery of profit plan objectives and business commitments. B. Builds organizational capability by conducting regular performance evaluations for direct reports and contributing to performance reviews of functional reports. Facilitates career discussions with subordinates and creates appropriate development plans to ensure continuous growth of talent and capability within the organization. C. Champions changes to current procedures and develops new procedures to ensure continuous improvement of engineering processes and business systems. D. Leads initiatives to evaluate and provide competitive assessment and industry trends through benchmarking and associated business intelligence gathering activities. Remains knowledgeable and informed regarding state-of-the-art technology and transfers this into tangible contributions. E. Prepares comprehensive reports and presentations, and communicates this information to leadership, customers, partners, etc., in a clear and concise manner. F. Provides input to profit plan to define project and program deliverables and accurately assess timelines, and resources to accomplish these objectives. Tracks progress on a regular basis to enable monthly reporting of variance to plan. G. Interfaces with Product Planning to ensure voice of the customer requests and requirements are captured in the strategic planning and portfolio management processes. H. Contributes to strategic direction and implementation regarding calibration infrastructure, integration processes, system level performance, and product feature sets to drive value propositions that command a premium for the associated products and technologies. I. Ensures compliance of engines certified for compatibility with Eaton automated transmission and drives quality control and process robustness at the OEMs and engine companies to ensure prevention of customer spills and ZMPD?s. J. Leads integration interface with end users and fleets to resolve customer performance complaints, gather relevant data, and optimize products to suit customer wants and needs. Transfers this information into clear product requirements for the business. K. Owns vehicle level performance and fuel economy optimization global integration processes. Partners with Eaton Centers of Excellence (CoE), industry consultants, and vehicle and engine OEM partners to execute on fuel economy simulation, vehicle testing, and validation of product and calibration designs. Builds and leverages key relationship across various business units/function Preferred Qualifications: ? MBA or Master?s degree in Engineering ? 3+ years engineering management and leadership experience with proven track record. ? Experience in multiple business functions. ? 10+ years of experience in, or strong knowledge of, heavy-duty truck or automotive drivetrain/powertrain systems development and integration. ? Understanding of NAFTA and global truck markets and key customer drivers. Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements) ? Bachelor of Science in Engineering. ? 7 years of engineering experience. ? Willing to travel up to 25%. ? Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.
