Engineering Specialist Job in Sacramento 95813, California US

This position requires a strong engineering aptitude and the ability to quickly assimilate technical requirements into mechanical designs. Must have demonstrated ability to design mechanical components and complex assemblies and verify the integrity of designs through the use of dimensional analysis tools. Candidate will be expected to work to specified deadlines without supervision and will be required to guide the work of level 2 and 3 engineering designers.

Interact with design engineers to develop propulsion components and complex assemblies using Unigraphics NX and/or Pro Engineer CAD models and associative drawings. Perform design and design verification analysis for engineering CAD models, drawings, design packages, and related data for compliance to contractual requirements, accuracy, and completeness. Perform design calculations and tolerance analysis based on ASME Y14.5 GDT principles and Aerospace manufacturing tolerances and tooling concepts and quality inspection practices. Support rapid turnaround concept designs for proposals and design trades. Responsible for ensuring that Aerojet CAD Models and drawings are prepared in accordance with contractual requirements and Aerojet Policies and Procedures.

Participate as a member of various project teams and committees. Responsible for generating models, drawings, dimensional analysis reports and visual art used in technical design reviews. Provide input and recommendations for mechanical designs.

Assign work to and provide technical direction to drafters, level 2 and 3 designers and design support personnel as required.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an appropriate discipline and nine years of related technical experience in a mechanical engineering field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Requires demonstrated experience in the design and development of complex mechanical systems. Projects require dimensional analysis of mechanical hardware accounting for variation driven by structural, thermal and environmental. Strong working knowledge of GDT dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5; the ability to work with Dimensional analysis software tools like Vis VSA; Unigraphics NX and Pro Engineer CAD models and drawings; solid understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, machining, heat treating) and assembly variation are needed. Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and work with other senior designers within the mechanical engineering organization. Knowledge of Six-Sigma Design Methodologies a plus. 

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
