The Engineering Technician IV assists management in application of principles, methods, and techniques of engineering technology, reviews project specifications and confers with Project Management concerning assistance required, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports.  Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems.

Equivalent to completion of two years of college level studies, including pre-engineering technology coursework (construction background preferred) that included drafting and mathematics and four years of applicable engineering technician experience.  Skill to perform complex engineering calculations, drafting, surveying and other office and field work as needed for the area of major responsibility. Ability to work independently with only general supervision; conduct and/or coordinate major programs; work cooperatively with other people; perform drafting, surveying and note taking accurately and legibly; and interpret complex maps and drawings.
