Colby seeks applicants for the position of:
Engineering Technician
Physical Plant Department
The Engineering Technician is responsible for providing support to project managers with the administration of design and construction projects; assisting physical plant staff by gathering existing building conditions information; and maintaining the work order database. The Engineering Technician is an integral part of the Capital Projects team, providing technical support such as reviewing plans, preparing drawings, inspecting projects, gathering design and construction related information, identifying problems and assisting in the development of solutions. The Engineering Technician is an hourly appointment. The normal work schedule is five days/40 hours per week, with additional hours as needed to meet workload and construction schedules.
Supervision
The Engineering Technician reports to the Assistant Director of Capital Projects and Construction. Additional responsibilities and tasks are assigned by the Director of Physical Plant.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum of five years related design/construction experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and relate them to field conditions.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with members of a diverse campus community.
- Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers.
- Strong experience with software for the following tasks is required: for data analysis and spreadsheet preparation (i.e. Excel), for document preparation (i.e. Word), for email communication (i.e. Outlook), for plan preparation (i.e. AutoCAD and Revit).
- Experience with, or ability to learn within three months, work order and database management softwares (i.e. TMA, Filemaker Pro, Open Office) is required.
- Familiarity with LEED strongly desired.
- Surveying experience is a plus.
- The ideal candidate will have good attention to detail, be self-motivated, be organized, and have good communication skills.
- Strong ability to work independently and to multi-task is essential.
- If driving of College vehicles is required, employment will be subject to insurability by the College’s automobile insurance carrier.
Education and Licensure Required
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, Construction Management Technology or related field.
