Enterprise Desktop Engineer Specialist

The Consultant Desktop Engineer contributes to the overall design, implementation, maintenance and support of Kaiser Permanente's desktop environment. They participate in defining hardware standards and engineering the desktop platform, in addition to implementing policies and procedures to ensure consistency with company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements. The Consultant Desktop Engineer is a recognized technical leader within the department and organization, with emphasis on the design of the desktop environment. They have the ability to demonstrate breadth of knowledge across multiple areas of information technology and will play a key role in strategic or enterprise-wide technology projects or issues. Essential Functions: - Design, build and develop engineered solutions - Create documentation of technical designs, System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting. - Implementation and maintenance of company-wide desktop standards and procedures - Create and maintain processes through automation and associated documentation - Design, creation and troubleshooting of Group Policy Objects (GPO) managing the security and configuration of the windows and Citrix XenDesktop desktop platforms. - Troubleshooting application/operating systems issues with the Citrix CitrixXenDesktop and image automation. - Application and Operating System lifecycle management including upgrades and patching. - Provide Tier 3 support in the operation and management of Windows desktops/laptops, thin clients, virtual machines, and related application components to ensure functionality of the supported desktop platforms. - Manage various types of medium-to-complex project initiatives, upgrades and maintenance activities - Serve as the subject matter expert for specific technical systems - Continually perform research, evaluate and provide documented recommendations for new technologies and tools related to the desktop environment - Troubleshoot system/application issues of medium-level and high-level complexity and escalate issues appropriately - On-Call rotation between team members - Identify, diagnose and escalate (as needed) production problems such as defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in systems functions, outputs, and content Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or 4 years of equivalent experience. - A minimum of 10 years of experience in technology consulting including research, synthesis, development, monitoring of technologies and consulting with management regarding recommended technology directions, maintenance and dissemination of standards. - Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure and client side architectures, software lifecycle, and system design. - Designing and architectural experience implementing desktop management suites as well as have adept experience deploying applications within a large corporate multi-domain/multi-site organization. - Experience understanding of current industry trends and their advantages with ability to right fit into an existing environment. - In-depth knowledge of the registry and file system security. - Propose, design, and implement enhancements and additions to current environment - Advanced level troubleshooting skills, including Tier 3 support and root cause analysis of the Desktop environment. - Experience troubleshooting and enhancing desktop security and configuration management through Group Policy Objects (GPO), in-depth experience with Active Directory and GPOs as well as the ability to create custom policies. - Displays in-depth competency in imaging automation, packaging, application virtualization, - Experience in a large corporate multi-domain/multi-site organization. - Excellent time management and organizational skills. - Provides expert level complex, high-level technical support for all systems relating to the desktop, and carries out complex assignments requiring the development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures. - Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal error and guidance and in a collaborative team environment. - Excellent written, verbal communication skills as well as people skills with ability to handle difficult situations. - Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority. - Proven successes with executive presentations and influence. - Solutions-oriented. Able to define problems, collect data, and make recommendations on potential solutions - Comfortable in a business development role with a deep understanding of the product lifecycle process. - Team player who works well with both technical and non-technical resources. Preferred Qualifications: - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification is preferred - Citrix CCA for Citrix XenDesktop certification is preferred
