University of Idaho Information Technology Services department is looking for individuals to work in a collaborative team of highly-qualified Server Systems Analysts who manage over 200 Windows and Linux servers. You’ll focus on maintaining the stability, security and performance of enterprise servers using Windows Server or Red Hat Linux operating systems. Our team stays competitive working with current technologies such as blade hardware, VMWare VSphere and SAN infrastructures and services. Applicants will need work experience which demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in either Windows Server or Red Hat Linux Server systems, and competency troubleshooting core components of the operating system. Your skills and responsibilities must be supporting enterprise servers. This must be documented in the supplemental questionnaire for this position, so please fill it out completely. The ideal candidate should also have a demonstrated record of delivering quality customer service and communicating effectively with staff and management both verbally and in writing. Employment is contingent on a successful background investigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

· Requires a Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or a related field) PLUS a minimum of two years enterprise server system administration experience; or four years of enterprise server system administration experience. Experience must be with current versions of a primary operating system of either Microsoft Windows or Linux. If Linux, Redhat or its equivalent is preferred.

· Experience identifying and solving server system support problems.

· Experience implementing and troubleshooting vendor supplied server software and server hardware.

· Experience troubleshooting enterprise class rack-mount server hardware and components.

· Experience interacting with users to identify and resolve server system problems.

· Experience working cooperatively and communicating effectively with management, colleagues, and end-users in a customer service driven environment.

· In-depth experience with operating system design, concepts, and analysis.

· Working well with people from various organizational disciplines and with people who have varying degrees of technical experience.

Knowledge and Capabilities:

· Lifting devices weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Advanced knowledge of a primary server operating system of either Microsoft Windows or Linux, and exposure and willingness to work in a secondary operating system of either Microsoft Windows or Linux.

· Industry best practices for working in and maintaining a secure server environment.

· Working knowledge of server system technologies such as Storage Area Networks, virtualization, and scripting (shell, Perl, or Windows scripting).

· Knowledge of practical applications of common network protocols such as SMB, CIFS, SNMP, SSH, and LDAP.

· Demonstrated record of delivering quality customer service and communicating effectively both verbally, in writing, and interpersonally.

Must have a flexible and professional attitude towards working hours.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience independently managing enterprise server projects.

· Demonstrated success working in a cross-platform, team environment and promoting the goals of the organization.

· Server system certification such as RHCA, RHCE, Linux+, VCP, DCSE, CNE, CNA, MCSE, or MCSA.

· Experience with Dell PowerEdge, EMC storage technology, APC power systems, Commvault Simpana, VMware virtualization, Oracle, SQL, blade server hardware, and enterprise e-mail systems would be beneficial.

· A good knowledge of industry trends and hardware and software is also highly desirable.
