Enterprise StorageTest Engineer II - 12000AN7 Global Lead Enterprise Repair Engineer The global services engineering team is looking for a technically strong Test Engineer that will be responsible for the repair on all enterprise products (to include cloud, server, storage, network.products . etc.). This person will lead the development of repair solutions to support new product launches and deploy repair solutions globally, this person will serve as the enterprise technical lead working directly with global repair suppliers to assist in the deployment of the repair solutions in their facilities. The primary focus of this role will be the following. Activities include: - In-depth understanding of enterprise product and service offerings and being able to review and develop applicable repair solution for these products - Working with design for serviceability team members to influence and drive lessons learned back into the PG core teams to ensure follow-on product launches are improved over predecessors - Being aware of game changing technologies and proactively understanding their impacts on repair processes and Dell?s end-users - Analyzing technologies and capabilities and determine best opportunities for repair operations The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics: - Possesses an excellent understanding of Dell?s Storage (EquaLogic, Compellent), and server technology - Ability to effectively lead cross-functional extended teams and achieve measurable results - Possesses a thorough understanding of manufacturing and repair operations - Ability to efficiently drives process standardization across global teams - Comfortably and clearly presents at the executive management level - Ability to deal with ambiguity and is capable of clearly communicating new technologies to non-technical teams - Has and analytical mind and has a record of getting results - Has an open mind and tends to embrace change - Must have the ability to influence others - Ability to think outside of the box and drive strategies and stretch goals This person would need to exercise independent judgment in developing innovative methods, techniques and strategies to drive improved diagnostic results. This person will also have a role as lead service technical strategist on the team for the enterprise products and will directly influence diagnostic improvements and/or enhancements in Dell Diagnostic test solutions. This person will also be expected to drive further diagnostic enhancements into the call centers and on-sight environment to improve the overall dispatch process. Key focus will be on driving Warranty Cost, repeat returns (drive RRR), reducing cannot duplicate (CND), and improving the customer experience metrics for server and storage products. . Candidate will also serve as lead test engineer for one or more commodities and will be expected to lead key business initiatives, work well with cross-functional teams and support. The candidate will need to be able to generate business cases in support of warranty cost reductions initiatives and other related cost objectives. In addition, candidate will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers/technicians relative to both technical and professional development. Other skills Include: 1. Understanding of bare product test methods and theories. 2. Understanding of hardware and software interactions; able to apply this understanding to resolve issues. 3. Ability to identify potential product weakness and be able to provide design core diagnostic guidance and recommendations for improvements to subsequent products. 4. Able to drive problem-solving strategies for complex problems that involve cross-functional disciplines. 5. Detail-oriented with attention to product quality and overall diagnostic effectiveness. 6. Knowledge of batch file automation and diagnostic programs used to test software and hardware. 7. Knowledge of (1) analog and digital circuit theory and principles; or (2) software design and engineering theory and principles. 8. Understanding of how to debug electrical models and interpret results. 9. Understanding of current and future memory and memory bus architectures and most common type of failure modes 10. Ability to manage multiple programs and/or areas simultaneously. 11. Problem solving and analysis skills. 12. Understanding of computer assemblies. 13. Ability to read and understand circuit schematics and/or mechanical drawings. 14. Knowledge of components used in complex printed circuit board assemblies. 15. Ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, Education and Abilities: BS or MS in Electrical /or Computer Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the electronics or related industry. Formal leadership experience is preferred but not required. Looking for a person with strong skill in MS Access, Oracle and/or SQL programming. Also looking for skills such as Project Management, Continuous Improvement Methods (Six Sigma), Lean Principles, Comparative Methods, Design of Experiments, Process Control Methods, and Analysis of Variance. Prior Test Engineering background is strongly recommended. Strength in the core competencies of organizational agility, dealing with ambiguity, ability to influence senior management, command and presentation skills are critical.
