This position is based in Mountain View, CA or Austin, TX. The role: Enterprise Technical Solutions Engineer, Geospatial Enterprise Technical Solution Engineers provide technical assistance and developer support as part of a global 24x7 organization. You will interface directly with Enterprise businesses using Google's geospatial technologies, and work closely with Google software engineers, product managers, and sales engineers to improve the product's vision and to make Google customers successful. This position works with Google Enterprise Geospatial hosted products, such as Google Earth Builder and the Google Maps APIs, as well as on-premise software such as the Google Earth Enterprise Portable, Fusion and Server products. Responsibilities: Provide admin, developer and technical support for the Google Maps and Google Earth Enterprise products, including debugging customer applications, authoring documentation and code samples, handling business and technical questions and escalations via phone, web, or email, and possible on call pager rotations. Work closely with customers, partners and field teams to define best practices and methodologies for the successful deployment of Google Geospatial solutions. Identify and document bugs and feature requests in the products; work with software engineers and customers to implement effective solutions along business-appropriate timelines; at a senior level, fix bugs and implement feature requests as a sustaining engineer. Work closely with developers, product managers, and sales engineers to improve the products; at a senior level, influence product design, develop product code, and/or participate in contract negotiation and structuring. Identify proactively and own process, tool, and product improvements to help improve the way we serve geospatial developers and admins, and deliver a world-class developer and admin support experience. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical degree. In lieu of degree, 5 years relevant work experience. 1 year industry experience in: developer or API support, professional services, software development, systems integration, or systems engineering. Preferred Qualifications: Great account management, initiative, follow-through,resourcefulness, attention to detail, and verbal and written English communication skills. Can-do attitude, strong sense of ownership, great teaming skills and a drive to excel in all aspects of the developer support experience. Experience developing web-based geospatial applications in JavaScript, Python, or other interpreted languages; strong foundation in HTTP protocol, XML, HTML5, and JSON; experience working with APIs; strong familiarity with CSS. Good understanding of Projections, Vector data formats (Shape Files,GML), Raster data formats (JPEG 2k, GeoTIFF) and relevant geospatial technologies (WMS, WFS, and other OGC specifications). Development experience with open-source (e.g. GDAL/OGR) and commercial (ArcGIS) GIS software helpful. Good understanding of TCP/IP protocol and networking, Linux system administration or kernel design, and scripting languages (bash, Python, Perl).
