Responsibilities
Purpose:
A corporate-wide position responsible for providing environmental policy and
permitting services for natural gas transmission and distribution and electric
generation and distribution subsidiaries in a manner that is consistent with
NiSource EHS policy and business objectives.

Essential Responsibilities:
* Excellent career opportunity to be an integral part of a corporate
environmental program for a
Fortune 500 energy company.
* Position will be based in the Merrillville, IN area with travel in the 10+
states in which NiSource
conducts business (Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and South).
* The position will be responsible for providing environmental policy and
permit support
services for electric and natural gas business units.
* The candidate must be familiar with environmental agency regulatory
development, as well
as, permitting and compliance requirements and applicable state and federal
environmental
laws and regulations.
* The position requires the candidate to understand, evaluate, critically
analyze, and
communicate the impact on operations of environmental regulatory and
legislative proposals.
* Position includes identification, development, enhancement and implementation
of
compliance and proactive environmental policy programs.
* Knowledge of the permitting process for preconstruction, construction,
process and system
modification for minor and major activities, as well as process for
acquiring and
implementing operating permits for facilities will be required for this
position.
* Must be excited about working with diverse teams on program and regulatory
development in
the air, water and solid waste areas and have appreciation of the important
relationship
between energy and environmental policies.

Qualifications
Key Work Experiences/Education:

Required for Selection:
* Minimum of B.S. in a science or environmental related field
* Must have ability to identify opportunities and develop policy programs from
a multifunctional,
cross-process perspective to enhance corporate business plans
* Must have ability to develop and implement permitting programs from a
multi-media, cross-
process perspective to identify opportunities to support and enhance
corporate business
plans
* Must have self-directed aptitude and be willing to contribute in a wide array
of environmental
disciplines
* Must have demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and
have a strong
ability to work with and be a leader in diverse team settings
* Must have excellent communication skills
* Approximately 20% travel

Preferred for Selection:
* M.S. degree in a science or environmental related field
* 5+ years of environmental experience in the regulated electric utility
industry
* Significant experience with regulated electric utility industry environmental
policy matters
* A working understanding of recent and proposed air regulations in the utility
industry
* Significant knowledge of energy related fields including electric generation,
natural gas
transmission and storage, and natural gas distribution
