ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SAFETY SPECIALIST
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) function concerns itself with the health and safety of plant employees through prevention of incidents, accidents, illnesses, and injuries and protection of the environment through program and permit compliance. Included in the EHS function areas are environmental,
safety, employee health, industrial hygiene, fire, and security. The EHS
Specialist will responsible for a variety of environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene programs, auditing, reporting, projects, training, and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and manages plant safety programs including hazard communication, personal protective equipment, machine guarding, and fall protection
- Supervises contract security function
- Implements and manages Abbott global technical standards requirements
- Conducts risk assessments including machine guarding and ergonomics
- Conducts accident/incident investigations and safety inspections and assists with tracking corrective actions
- Oversees emergency response team and program
- Develops and conducts/coordinates EHS trainings
- Assists with developing EHS strategy for continuous improvement
- Communicates EHS program requirements and initiatives
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Occupational Health Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or related field - includes intern or
Co-op experience
- Technical expertise in EHS; plant level experience is preferred
- Working knowledge of applicable regulations (i.e., Occupational, Health, and Safety and Environmental Protection Agency)
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into policies and procedures
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to make good decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Solid strategic and analytical skills and technical knowledge
- Program management skills, including proven ability to deliver thorough
and timely solutions to issues and initiatives
- Ability to work independently to drive for results
- Ability to conduct risk assessments
- Good presentation skills
- Availability to come in on off shifts and weekends as needed to conduct training or accident investigations
