Environmental Manager Job in Windsor, Ontario Canada
Windsor Essex Parkway Project is a below grade, six-lane 11 kilometre highway, with 11 tunnels and 12 bridges. It will connect Hwy 401 to the future bridge crossing of the Detroit River. Windsor is a unique and interesting city to live in with great entertainment and sport venues and no lengthy commutes to/from work. One of Canada’s most southerly cities, it boasts some of the warmest temperatures in Canada. We are currently searching for an Environmental Manager who will be responsible for overseeing all environmental aspects of the WEP project in coordination with the Environmental Sustainability Director.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Oversees all environmental aspects of the project design.
- Works closely with Construction Team to identify permitting requirements for critical path activities and ensure Construction Team are aware of potential timing restrictions.
- Works closely with Technical Service Dept.to ensure all environmental issues are addressed and project schedules are met.
- Involved in public consultation process as required.
- Coordinates environmental sub-contractors (i.e., AMEC) to provide specialty input and direction on behalf of WEP.
- Analyzes and identifies leading and lagging trends to assist in environmental protection and compliance.
- Directs WEP’s environmental program. Informs WEP management of environmental issues and (solutions) involving the building of the project.
- Coordinates the instruction of operating personnel concerning the organization’s environment objectives.
- Creates and maintains appropriate reference files for all environmental issues and actions taken on the project.
- Acts as the project’s representative at environmental and regulatory hearings along with AMEC representatives.
- Participates in, and/or provides direction to others conducting environmental activities, review needs of construction team.
- Identifies and implements corrective and preventative actions to ensure compliance.
- Compiles quarterly and annual reports to update ongoing environmental processes and address current issues. Provide recommendations for implementation of corrective / preventative actions and suggest program improvements.
- Conducts corporate level audits.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Comprehensive working knowledge of Environmental Acts, Permits, Concerns Regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
• Demonstrated leadership, project management, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to handle competing priorities.
• 10 years practical environmental management experience.
· 5 years construction industry experience in a management/supervisory position.
• Experience of large, complex construction projects, preferably linear projects.
• A BS degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field is desired.
