As part of Merck's Quality Operations Organization, the Durham site Quality Team is seeking a highly motivated individuals to fill Environmental Monitoring Technician roles. Under the direction of an Quality Operations Coach, the successful candidates will perform environmental monitoring for viable and non-viable particulates and personnel monitoring and work surface samples according to established procedures. Additionally, water collection, clean steam, and compressed gas samples using aseptic technique. Maintains records of specified duties as required by GMPs. Performs other duties as assigned by supervision Specific duties include: 1. Working in aseptic areas requires ability to gown in sterile area garments appropriate for Grade A and Grade B areas. Must be able to work in clean room environments. 2. Using aseptic technique and under minimal supervision, performs airborne particulate monitoring in controlled environmental areas entering data into handheld computers or paperwork, as applicable, according to departmental procedures. 3. Performs routine microbial air monitoring. Also performs critical site testing, routine surface testing, and personnel monitoring, as specified in departmental SOPs. Enters all information into handheld computers or paperwork, as required. All testing is performed under minimal supervision and may be used in the release of product. Support per process/fill testing as required. Perform testing and/or check in production plates into the lab as required. 4. Prepares Micro, Chem, LAL bottles according to daily water collection schedule. Collects water samples aseptically for microbial, USP Chem, and LAL testing. 5. Assists departmental supervision in training new Technicians, as required, by demonstrating work procedures and familiarizing new employees with various testing areas around test sites. 6. Prepares testing equipment and necessary supplies as needed. Reports all defective equipment to supervision. Participates in the preventative maintenance of testing equipment. Maintains Technicians supply inventory. 7. Be knowledgeable of and follow all applicable cGMP and Safety guidelines in the performance of all duties. Maintains good housekeeping practices. 8. Receives assignments from Team/Dept. Coach or coordinates own work schedule, and with minimal supervision: a. assembles work schedule from LIMS b. performs test, ensures completion c. checks plates / samples into lab 9. Assists with problem resolution of test samples. Qualifications Required: * Bachelor's degree in a relevant science or engineering program * Associate's degree in a relevant science two years minimum experience in environmental monitoring * Must be willing to work a 12 hour shift that includes either days or nights and includes weekends and holidays. Preferred: * Experience using a LIMs data entry system * Experience with airborne particulate counters * Experience with microbial air samplers * Experience using appropriate technique in a laminar flow hood Our employees are the key to our company's success.
