Responsibilities and duties:

 

·       Coordination / field implementation of the environmental field programs as defined by site Environmental Management Plan (EMP)

o   coordination of / supervision of environmental contractors and consultants (spill clean-up, remediation, ground water sampling, soil, air quality monitoring etc.)

o   spill response / clean-up /exercises

o   stewardship - data gathering

o   incident reporting - external and internal

o   implement management programs for environmental aspects and update as necessary

o   coordinate waste management activities

o   manage and coordinate vegetation programs

 

·       Coordination / execution of regulatory compliance plan

o   Coordination of compliance to licenses, permits, approvals, reports, new govt. regulations i.e.G55

o   Local regulatory interface at site

o   May be required to coordinate and participate in govt. site inspections (ERCB, AEW, ASRD, DFO).

o   Manage and/or execute process to close any gaps from these inspections

o   compliance reports (approvals, permits, etc.)

o   stewardship - data summary

 

·       Environmental mentor / coach for operations personnel, team leaders, managers, and contractors.

 

·       All other associated tasks as assigned

 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES

 

·         Excellent background of environmental issues facing the oil sands industry

·         Experience with issues management in encountered in field operations

·         Must attain working familiarity with company positions on key issues

·         High degree of independence

·         Previous knowledge of provincial (e.g., ERCB, Alta. Environ., SRD) and federal (e.g., DFO) regulations

·         Broad technical and SSHE skills with basic understanding of project management and SSHE functional work processes

·         5-10+ years broad-based experience preferred, with prior experience in one or more SSHE-related disciplines

·         Good interpersonal and communication skills

·         Adaptable to changing priorities

·         Minimum Education: Technical Diploma, preference for environmental degree and field experience

 

Other Expectations:

 

·       Employee understands their responsibilities related to business controls, including training and compliance to the business units control program.

·       Where employee has specific controls responsibilities those specific items should be included in both expectations and performance

·       Position to begin in Calgary with field rotation once initial project specific orientation and training is completed.
