The Team

Information Systems, Development and Governance (IDG) is an integral part of thetrainline, delivering application and website development projects and operational running of systems that are crucial to the commercial success of our business and our customers.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting into the Release and Environments Manager, the role holder will ensure deployments of our platform are carried out to test and production environments, working with the development teams to identify changes to the build process and implement the changes. The support analyst will work with distributed support teams and in many cases act as the lead to resolve issues or co-ordinate the implementation of changes in the environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in platform deployments to production and non-production environments, using the tools, understanding the configuration files used and being able to eventually execute the deployment scripts.
• Maintain a detailed understanding of the environments supported by IS, in particular the physical and virtual hardware, application software deployed to the servers, database, network, SAN and 3rd party interfaces.
• After gaining the required knowledge of thetrainline systems resolve deployment issues without the need to engage 3rd line support or development teams.
• Use and suggest improvements to tools / monitors used in the deployment of application software of the environments.
• Unsociable hours including out of hours work will be required as necessary to manage the busy change schedule.

Knowledge Experience

• Strong implementation experience in software deployments in a multiple supplier environment.
• An understanding of development process e.g. Agile development knowledge and experience.
• An understanding of release planning, change and incident management.
• Proficient in operational / service architecture including IT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) and the applications and service processes used within the organisation.
• Experience of delivering in high pressure environments with the ability to make quick decisions.
• Ability to work in a multi-supplier and multi-stakeholder environment. Understanding the needs of the internal or external customer and keeping them in mind when taking actions or making decisions.
• Experience of modifying environment configurations, including application specific reference / environment data, and using tools such as TOAD, SQL Developer or VS Management Studio.

Technical Skills

• Experience of software deployment tools such as Cruise or GO.
• Experience of scripting language such as VBScript, NANT or PowrShell.
• Experience of supporting Enterprise scale Virtual Environments using VMware products.
• Development and infrastructure skills using Microsoft technologies and products.
• Familiar with TOPAZ, SCOM and BMC or similar tools.
• Familiar with SAN technologies and tools.
