Epidemiologist/Biostatistician (P/T, Temp)
Responsibilities HJF is seeking a part-time, temporary Epidemiologist/Biostatistician to support the Avian Influenza/Pandemic Influenza Department (AIPI). HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to AIPI. The incumbent will assist with specific duties relating to data analysis and publication efforts for the MDR1 Polymorphisms and Risk of Anxiogenic Mefloquine Adverse Events study. This will be an independent telework position located in close proximity to Fort Polk, Louisiana or with monthly trips to Fort Polk, Louisiana. Responsibilities: 1. Under direction from the PI, performs exploratory and formal analysis of nested case-control study data using Excel as well as STATA and/or SAS software. 2. Under direction from the PI, performs exploratory and formal analysis of pharmacogenetic nested case-control study data using Helix Tree SNP Analysis software. 3. Independently maintains data sets, calculates statistics, verifies and cross checks epidemiologic and biostatistical calculations and analysis. 4. Prepares figures and tables using Excel and Helix Tree SNP Analysis as well as STATA and/or SAS software. 5. Assists in the preparation and editing of manuscripts, internal reports, and presentations related to formal pharmacogenetic, and supporting background and methodological analysis of the nested case-control study. 6. Organizes, summarizes and abstracts research papers across a range of disciplines including genetic epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, molecular biology, the behavioral sciences, military medicine, and tropical and travel medicine. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have proficiency in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as analytical tools STATA or SAS; excellent organization and communication skills; and the ability to work independently. Must have knowledge and familiarity with the epidemiology and risk factors relevant to military behavioral and psychological health, including PTSD, the public health and preventive medicine models of military medicine including a general knowledge of U.S. military health policies and procedures, and the conduct of de-identified, non-human subjects research. Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Graduation from an accredited university with an MPH or MSPH. Minimum Experience: 0-2 years experience in genetic epidemiology preferred. Physical Capabilities: Prolonged sitting using a personal computer. Security Level: Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check. Work Environment: This will be an independent telework position based in Fort Polk Louisiana with frequent meetings with the study Principal Investigator. Position could require monthly trips to Fort Polk Louisiana to meet with the Principal Investigator if candidate is not located in close proximity.
