Equities Valuation Controller
This role is part of a four person team and is responsible, largely for the US region, for the following:
- Support business growth
- Performing the monthly Independent Price Verification (‘IPV’) processes for both the firm’s structured derivative and vanilla equity products.
- Enable team to undertake more in-depth analysis on our core product portfolios, including establishing link between IPV, PL attribution and risk.
- Enhance Governance around IPV, including assisting in writing up procedural / guideline documents, identifying best practices and sharing these globally. Interact with other regional valuation controllers and working to implement best practices from other regions.
Core responsibilities of the role includes:
- Perform IPV processes during month-end (with a primary focus on structured products), review results and investigate any significant variances.
- Undertake detailed in-depth analysis on IPV related issues.
- Identify areas with low testing coverage and identify testing alternatives to close this gap.
- Interaction with the Business and Risk to close out gaps in processes / controls. Build and maintain strong relationships with these groups.
- Recommending ways to improve the IPV processes.
The successful candidate will be expected to have:
- Expert level of understanding on equity products, especially structured equity derivative products. Strong understanding of valuation inputs, market trends and technical factors impacting pricing of various structured equity derivative products.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical issues in a more easy to understand terminology and also relate that back to the impact that would have on the organization both in risk and financial statements terms.
- Prior experience working with traders and senior business personnel is essential.
- Have an understanding of accounting standards impacting valuations and fair value hierarchy.
- Ability to multitask and work independently.
- Willingness and capability to form own opinion. Strong analytical skills to be able to support and communicating this opinions.
- Maintaining a strong control mind-set and having the willingness to build and maintain a strong control environment.
- Experience working with ‘Change the Bank’ (process efficiency using IT) related projects is desirable.
Basic Qualifications
- BS or BA Degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product control or valuation control role within Equities and specifically dealing with structured derivative products.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access Skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA
- CPA (or equivalent) and/or CFA preferred but not mandatory
- Strong technical knowledge of Equity Products and understanding of risk arising from structured products
