OMERS Capital Markets (OCM) manages OMERS public market investments, which include Canadian and non-Canadian investments in equities, bonds, and other interest bearing instruments. As one of Canada’s largest pension plans, OMERS provides pension services to more than 400,000 active and retired members and about 928 employers (www.omers.com).

As part of its strategic plan to increase internal management of global equities, OMERS Capital Markets seeks Analysts to join its Equity Research team.   The candidate will perform in-depth industry and company analysis, including detailed financial models and valuation analyses within the sector.

Responsibilities will be as follows:

• Industry Analysis – In-depth qualitative analysis of industries focusing on the key drivers of industry growth and profitability (Porter analysis). 

• Company Analysis – Thorough business analysis of the company including its competitive strategy and position, historical growth and return profile, and current business opportunities/challenges.

• Valuation – Using the key insights from industry and company analyses, build a financial model and complete a DCF valuation with appropriate sensitivity analysis.

• Stock Recommendations – Using industry and company analyses, build a financial model incorporating the relevant historical financial information. Develop an explicit forecast for the company and complete a DCF valuation with appropriate sensitivity analysis.   Prepare a concise, focused report to communicate your investment thesis.

• Monitoring of Investments – Update sector team and portfolio managers on company/industry news. Develop and maintain business relationships with company management teams and industry experts. Maintain Excel models with relevant company updates and analyses.

• Other – Contribute to the development of analytical objectives, policies and strategies directed towards investing in equities of acceptable risk.   Maintain responsibility for identifying investment ideas within the global and Canadian sectors.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Graduate degree and CFA designation

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant, progressive experience in equity analysis, with at least 3 years experience covering the relevant sector

• Deep knowledge of valuation and equity markets with a demonstrated passion for investing

• Excellent analytical skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Very strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail

• Highly developed interpersonal and relationship management skills

• An action-oriented approach with a high degree of initiative and ability to deliver results

• High ethical standards and good team player

• Independent and forward thinking
