Equity Research Business Manager recruitment
UBS Investment Bank Research is generally accepted to be one of the world leaders for breadth and quality of research product with approximately x professionals worldwide.
Research management is seeking an experienced, high calibre individual based in London to help support the Research Management function. The scope of the role will be global in nature, with a particular emphasis on support of the European Research function. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely, and build relationships with the numerous business partners within the Research and Equities businesses.
The successful candidate will specifically be responsible for:
• Monitoring operational and regulatory risks to ensure that European Research complies with required supervisory controls and regulatory requirements, thus ensuring that Research meets all of its Compliance and Audit requirements. Liaison with Legal Compliance to resolve any regulatory or compliance issues.
• Work in partnership with Legal Compliance to assess current processes on operational risks control and roll out revised processes where required.
• Managing spend within the department. This will include but not limited to: (i) overseeing and managing annual Research budgets; (ii) approving and reviewing analyst spend within the department (iii) driving behavioural change on costs across the department.
• Owning and successfully managing ad-hoc projects and strategic initiatives to ensure that all Global objectives are implemented effectively.
• Complete process review with an objective of optimising existing processes. Present clear and concise recommendations to senior management.
• Preparing and delivering ad-hoc business analysis for use by Research Management, while overseeing daily and monthly Research reporting requirements. Develop MIS reporting to support the Global Director of Research in management of global Research, prepare detailed analysis and present clear conclusions and recommendations.
• Interfacing with counterparts in other business areas on cross business objectives, sharing views on best practice and understanding improvements that can be made to processes within Research

Educational requirements:
- Graduate qualification; Accountancy qualification advantageous.
- Graduate qualification; Accountancy qualification advantageous.
Experience:
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the Securities Research business and how Research interacts with key internal clients to enable: (i) implementation of Research specific strategic initiatives (eg client coverage review), and (ii) Research representation on various Equities forums and Research committees where necessary.
- A thorough understanding of the key risks at play within the Research department, and the operational risks control framework in place to mitigate these risks. Previous experience in an audit/risks control environment advantageous. This will include but not limited to:
1. experience of monitoring operational risk i.e. overseeing monthly controls monitoring processes, with a view to identifying control and process weaknesses and/or inefficiencies and recommend enhancements to existing control processes
2. developing and maintaining a risk management metric to highlight potential issues to regional business managers
3. work in partnership with LC to implement new policies and procedures, and develop processes to monitor adherence to such
4. liaising with audit and compliance when required
- Very strong numerical skills; the ability to analyse large volumes of data (e.g. broker reviews, costs, revenues) to arrive at well informed conclusions and recommend changes to strategic initiatives to research management.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders. Ability to articulate key department objectives/priorities to senior analysts. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral which will enable you to forge relationships with key counterparts in Equities and within the research business
- Motivated self starter, with an enthusiasm for the business, and for expanding personal knowledge
