Position Description:
Morgan Stanley is seeking a strong Associate for its Valuation Review Group (VRG). VRG provides an independent valuation opinion across the entire spectrum of financial instruments within the firm's sales and trading inventory and proprietary investment portfolio, ranging from vanilla products to the most complex structured and derivative transactions. The team leverages its diverse quantitative skill set and intimate product expertise to act as a guardian and approver of valuation methodology.

The Institutional Equity Division (IED) VRG group is responsible for the independent valuation of all business lines within IED and all products including cash products, derivatives, swaps, etc. The group performs the review of the portfolio valuation, which involves approval of valuation methodologies, testing adherence to such methodologies, comparison of Morgan Stanley marks to external marks/benchmarks, identification and resolution of potential pricing discrepancies - and provides a valuation summary assessment to senior management. The group is also involved in the continuous advancement and enhancements of the valuation control infrastructure with a view towards global standardization. The group liaises heavily with Traders, Desk Strategists and Global Product Controllers.

The candidate will be primarily responsible for IED Derivatives Model Application Review (MAR). Specific responsibilities will include:

• Review of complex trade bookings, ensuring that trade economics are accurately reflected in payoff code. Help create an effective control framework for this process.
• Verification of model type and model scope used to value complex trades
• Working closely with Strategist, trading desk and controllers to follow up on any questions or issues raised in the trade review process
• Monitoring and reviewing changes made to payoff code or model inputs
• Documenting and reporting complex trade review metrics

Skills Required:
• Bachelors in Finance, Math, Engineering or other degree required. Advanced quantitative degree is desirable.
• 2 to 4 years experience in financial services industry, preferably with valuation background
• Familiarity with derivatives and structured products
• Strong C++, Advanced Excel/VBA.
• Strong Analytical / Quantitative skills
• Possess the ability and willingness to adapt to new challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
• Control-minded with strong attention to detail
• Experience summarizing results and producing management reports
• Effective and assertive communication skills; effective in managing relationships
• Capable of understanding and interpreting technical documentation on new products and models.
