POSITION OVERVIEW:
MSCI ESG Research, part of MSCI Inc, is seeking to expand and strengthen its ESG Research analyst team in the Asia Pacific region. The ESG Research Analyst – Vice President will be responsible for managing a team of ESG analysts in multiple cities in the Asia Pacific region and will spent significant time on client-facing activities. This position will also be responsible for producing high profile research and overseeing and ensuring the quality of research produced by the APAC analyst team. Analysts investigate and assess core ESG risks faced by industries and evaluate performance large publicly traded companies globally.
Presentations of industry and company analysis to both MSCI clients and potential clients, contact with the corporations we assess, as well as contribution to developing our ratings model are all components of the job for the Vice President as well as the analysts who will report to him or her. A qualified candidate would have experience in conducting analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and have strong facility with modeling as well as experience in management and client interactions.
Currently, we are seeking candidates with expertise in Emerging Markets ESG Issues. Experience in the following industries and issues is also desirable: Chemicals; Insurance; Mining; Agriculture; Healthcare; Energy – Oil Gas, Utilities; Capital Goods/Heavy Industry; Transportation; Public Health; Nutrition; Labor; Governance; Biodiversity and Natural Resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage team of ESG analysts in APAC region (Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney), including quality assurance, training and mentoring
- Primary ESG Research client contact in APAC region; frequent presentations and meetings with clients and prospects throughout the region
- Preparation of 2-3 industry, country, or issue reports per year focusing on key 'thought leading' implications of ESG research findings
- Analyze and prepare research reports for 20-30 high profile Emerging Market companies per year
- Contribution to ongoing improvement of ratings model and research processes
- Additional projects as needed
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in:
- ESG research industry, or
- Financial services experience that includes exposure to ESG investment products, or
- Analytical roles within key industries, or
- Relevant public policy or academic or NGO experience
- Strong background in research and analysis, with particular emphasis on Emerging Markets
- Excellent writing, communication, and public speaking skills
- Experienced at presenting results of research in public settings
- Minimum 3 years management experience
- Existing network of ESG industry contacts in Asia strongly preferred
- Sales, marketing, or client services experience desired
- Minimum of Bachelors’ degree required
- Advanced degree in related field preferred (Masters or PhD) but not required
