JOB DESCRIPTION
European Bank seeks a Junior Special Situations Trader in New York. This comprises elements of cash, volatility, convertibles and index programs. Clients are predominantly equity based hedge funds that use special situations/risk arbitrage strategies but also include long only funds and institutional firms
Role
- Evaluating and executing client trades in announced MA transactions, takeover speculation, spin-offs, split off, exchange offers etc. Desk also puts on principal trades based on original ideas
- Assist senior traders with managing the desk’s risk exposure
- Reviewing news reports and merger related filings
- Understand deal dynamics, valuations etc by communicating with desk analysts
- Pitching trade ideas orally and in writing to special situations and general sales for
- Maintain PL records
Skills/ Qualifications
- Technical, Economic or Finance based degree from a top university
- 3+ years experience in equity or equity derivatives trading or sales
- 1+ years experience merger arbitrage/event driven strategies
- Ability to make instinctive decisions based on limited information and intuitive acumen
- Demonstrate an ability to think in a probabilistic nature
