European Macro Economist recruitment

Position Description

Ø Conduct macroeconomic analyses of the European developed and emerging economies.

Ø Collect, interpret, analyse and report macroeconomic and financial information to contribute to the company’s knowledge of economy-wide, sector specific and industry specific economic trends and market developments (“macroeconomic drivers”) affecting the value of equity and bond investments in those countries.

Ø Investigate how the interactions of various macro-factors (e.g. balance of payments, currency valuation, inflation, budget deficits, inventories, consumer debt and spending, interest rates) contribute to the overall economic and investment environment.

Ø Complete studies of the effects of multiple macroeconomic factors on target industrial and commercial sectors, and stock and bond risks and returns within those sectors.

Ø Foster and maintain contacts with policy makers and officials of various European governments. Utilize this network to provide insights on issues and host joint meetings with investment associates.

Ø Keep abreast of developments in macroeconomic theory, and in theories of finance and monetary economics, reading the emerging academic literature on topics related to quantitative and model based economic and financial research.

Ø Collaborate with in-house economists, quantitative, accounting and political research analysts on joint research projects, presentations, and travel.

Hiring Criteria

Ø Masters degree with a major in economics or finance.

Ø 5 -10 years as an economist, investment analyst, or in a related occupation.

Ø A combination of policy background as well as financial markets experience is preferred.

Ø A strong macro-economics background is more important than Europe expertise.

Ø Experience in the use of econometric analysis packages and financial software packages (Datastream, Factset and Bloomberg) for macroeconomic modelling and analysis is helpful.
