The Executive Director, Center for Advanced Learning works collaboratively with the Chief Administrative Officer to provide leadership for and determine the strategic direction of the department and to ensure that the Center supports the broad academic mission of teaching and staff development. Collaborates with other SDHIPM leadership to design, develop and implement educational programs for staff as well as students, visitors and others. Responsible for supervising and developing departmental staff to ensure timely and organized coordination of the education programs.
Location: This position will be based out of the administrative office location in Mission Valley (92108)
Responsibilities:
· Works collaboratively with the Chief Officers, Executive Directors, and Managers to identify areas for staff development, and to create and implement an annual education plan that incorporates education and training toward the organization’s dynamic strategic goals and also incorporates the ongoing annual cycle of compliance training and testing for all employees. Demonstrates leadership and facilitates achievement of the strategic goals and objectives of SDHIPM
· Holds primary responsibility for oversight of SDHIPM’s New Hire Orientation process for both clinical and non-clinical employees. Ensures development of effective and efficient New Hire training programs that meet the needs of the organization, ensuring new employees are ready and able to take on the new employment role
· Continually assesses agency educational needs and resources. Works collaboratively with Quality Director, Compliance Director and Patient Care Services Directors and Managers to understand educational needs of staff. Develops educational programs to train new hires and improve overall clinical expertise. Monitors outcomes to ensure that educational programs are effective and organizational needs are being met. Identifies and implements opportunities for taking internal clinical educational offerings and making them available to outside organizations for a fee
· Develops and implements preceptor program for clinical staff. Serves as resource for preceptors regarding development of clinical skills, best practice standards, communication, and effective teaching strategies
· Ensures that clinical policies and procedures and references are up-to-date and that staff are trained on best practices. Responsible for developing clinical resources and ensuring their availability to staff
· Participates in grant development as requested. Responsible for implementation of grant related to education programs
· Monitors activities of the departmental staff and balances workload. Provides staff with the tools and training needed to perform their work proficiently and efficiently. Builds a high-performing team
· Participates in performance improvement activities and monitoring of outcomes related to educational activities. Identifies methods and tools to improve the effectiveness of educational programs provided by the Center for Advanced Learning. Seeks opportunities to keep abreast of current developments related to palliative care standards of care, teaching methods and models of educational delivery
· Develops excellent working relationships with all management and customers, exchanging ideas, relaying information and messages readily and effectively
· Responsible for developing the annual budget for the Center for Advanced Learning in conjunction with the Chief Administrative Officer and for managing within the budget approved by the leadership team and Board of Directors. Proactively identifies opportunities for both revenue generation and costs savings
· Maintains confidentiality and shows professionalism, cooperation, and courtesy in dealing with employees, management team, co-workers, supervisors, and other clients/vendors/visitors
· Performs other related duties, tasks or responsibilities as required, assigned or directed
Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree in education, nursing, social work, healthcare administration, or related field is highly preferred. Bilingual abilities preferred.
Experience:
· Requires minimum 5 years of experience with education in acute care, hospice or homecare setting, with at least 3 years in progressively complex supervisory/ administrative capacity
· Hospice case management skills preferred
· Requires at least two years of teaching experience and curriculum development for professional adult learners
· Must have excellent understanding of clinical practice and theory, as well as demonstrated leadership, project coordination, mentoring, writing, public speaking, and presentation skills
· Requires excellent organizational skills, professionalism, and communication skills
