The Position
The Executive Editor for Instruction will describe and provide examples instructional approach and developmental sequence of the programs. He or she will work with development teams to ensure that the approach is carried out consistently across mathematical content and instructional media.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop program planning documents and guidelines related to instruction that are aligned with program philosophy and informed by program authors and advisors, including scope and sequence, content descriptions, and lesson structures
• Train editors, instructional design team, and external content developers in program pedagogy and expectations
• Oversee development to ensure program pedagogy is consistently and faithfully implemented in practical, teacher- and student-friendly lessons, instructional media, and professional development
• Supervise a team of internal editors and external content developers
• Collaborate with assessment and software development teams in program planning and development; collaborate with marketing teams on key sales tools and training sessions related to instruction
• Monitor and maintain program schedules and budgets

The performance of the new Executive Editor for Instruction will be evaluated according to several metrics, including: effectiveness of program planning documents in communicating program design and requirements and informing content development; collaborative and productive working relationships with editorial, instructional design, and marketing staff; and quality of instructional content as defined by guidelines.

Requirements/ Skills:

The ideal Executive Editor of Instruction candidate has deep understanding of teaching and learning, math and math education, and struggling learners. He or she has extensive curriculum development and publishing experience, including with innovative or non-traditional curricula, for print- and technology-based products. This work may have been for a supplemental or basal publisher, an educational technology company, or other educational organization with commercially published products. The ideal candidate has taught math at late elementary or middle school levels; may have experience as curriculum coordinator, coach, or professional development provider for mathematics; and believes that good teaching and good curriculum can improve mathematics learning for students.

In addition, a candidate should demonstrate:

• Proven ability to think creatively and problem solve

• Superior written/oral communication skills; an ability to present his/her views in a clear and compelling manner

• A collaborative decision-making style of management

• Excellent interpersonal skills; able to mix easily and well with peers, subordinates and senior management

• Strong project planning skills

• 5-10 years of significant leadership responsibilities, including direct supervision of full-time staff
