Institutional Banking Markets (IBM) is responsible for servicing about 3000 major corporate, institutional and government clients. This is achieved through origination, structuring and execution of capital raising, financial markets and working capital solutions.
The IBM Strategy team works on a diverse range of topics with the IBM Leadership Team to develop the overall strategic direction for the business and ensure that we have a clear path to achieve our objective to be Australia's leading institutional banking and markets business.
In this role, you will:
- Provide insight regarding market developments and the competitive landscape
- Identify growth opportunities and constraints and develop strategies to support IBM's ambitions
- Support and challenge Group Executives in realising their strategic objectives
- Participate in the Group wide strategic planning process, present and advocate for IBM's strategy
The key requirements to perform the role are:
- Excellent strategic thinking skills, including a structured approach to problem solving
- Solid business acumen and knowledge of current market issues
- Strong numerical/quantitative/financial modelling skills and ability to apply those skills to develop business case recommendations
- Strong business presentation and writing skills
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including an ability to clarify and work with resistance
- An ability to drive results by making difficult decisions, setting goals and measuring progress, and an open minded approach to receiving and supporting the ideas of others
- A solid team player mindset, including recognizing and rewarding the accomplishments of others and maintain a positive attitude to situations requiring flexibility and adaptability
- Management consulting experience and financial services experience are preferred
- Completion of a relevant tertiary qualification such as an MBA or CFA would be beneficial
Typically activities include:
- Distilling complex business challenges into problem statements that can be used to facilitate and drive development of solutions
- Performing research, interviewing, financial modelling and data analysis to develop and test hypotheses
- Synthesising findings and developing compelling, structured business presentations that clearly articulate recommendations and act as a solid foundation for decision making
- Preparing business funding proposals and material to support cost/benefit analyses
- Developing and staying abreast of industry, market and competitor trends and implications for IBM
- Co-ordinating and collaborating with other strategy teams and businesses across the group
- Motivating a team of managers and analysts and taking an active role in their career development
- Building strong collaborative working relationships both within the team and with key business partners
