Experience Study (RD) Actuary
Research and development is one of the four key enabling functions highlighted in Swiss Re's new Life Health strategy. Swiss Re is keen to build on our traditional strengths of understanding key technical risks such as mortality and morbidity by also researching customer needs and behaviour. Having an accurate view of pricing and valuation assumptions has also become increasingly important in the markets served by the Zurich LH hub. These factors together with a renewed focus on data within Continental Europe-Middle East-Latin America means that the Zurich based experience studies team will evolve its focus in the next couple of years.

The opportunity
The position reports to the senior product actuary. You will:
- conduct regular experience studies covering our major lines of business;
- analyze and interpret findings and formulate conclusions;
- collaborate with product, marketing and other actuaries to produce biometric assumptions for pricing and valuation purposes ;
- communicate key findings of experience studies to clients, actuaries and management;
- be involved in research projects involving other data;
- be involved in projects contributing to data quality improvements and
- promote the information obtained internally to make more informed and profitable business decisions.
You may be required to coach and develop junior colleagues and be a source of technical knowledge and advice. In addition you may be required to assist the senior product actuary in a broader range of tasks and may be required to participate in broader Life Health projects
About you
Technical skills
- Minimum 3 years of work experience, preferably in an actuarial area
- FIA, FSA or equivalent *
- Good knowledge of life insurance products Interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Self starter and team player - able to work independently as well as on collaborative projects
- Strong analytical and data management skills, attention to detail is required
- Dynamic, innovative and committed to getting the job done within agreed deadlines;
- Proactive, enthusiastic and optimistic
- Language skills in another European business language will be a plus
IT skills
- Programming experience (e.g. Visual Basic, C+)
- Knowledge of statistical tools such as SAS etc. would be a serious plus
- General software skills e.g. Excel, Access are key
