Role Summary
This position is very much a duel role which requires someone to manage an existing UK sales team made up of 4 external sales people as well as develop and expand the European market for this UK manufacturer.
The Company
Our client is the European arm of an $80m worldwide manufacturer of folding tables, stages, benches, dance floors, beds, room service tables. Their key market has been education but they also operate within the hospitality and leisure industry. The European head office is based in the South East of England and employees 65 people and turns over in excess of £12m. The vast majority of this turnover comes from within the UK. The production facilities, finances and infrastructure are now in a position for a new export sales manager to come in and develop the European export market.
The Role
· To gain a full understanding of the education markets in the territory (Western Europe)
· To prepare and execute plans to ensure that our clients capitalises on the market opportunities and that profitable sales growth is achieved.
· To manage the international education sales team and distributors so that the objectives detailed in the Education Business Plan are achieved.
Key Tasks
1. European Education Market
To gain and communicate detailed market knowledge of the education markets in our clients territory and through research and analysis identify development opportunities.
2. UK Education Market
Build and communicate detailed and fully up to date market knowledge through research and personal contacts of the vital UK education market.
3. Prepare Plans
Prepare a detailed Annual Education Business Plan and a 3 Year Strategic Plan for the education market sector All plans are presented in line with the company planning timetable.
4. Deliver the Education Business Plan
To execute the Education Business Plan in order to, as an absolute minimum, deliver the sales and margins targets.
5. Managing the Team
Manage the education sales team to ensure that there is sufficient direct sales resource to achieve the objectives outlined in the Education Business Plan.
a. Effectively communicate the sales plan so that all members of the sales team fully understand the role that they play in sales growth and their own individual targets. This will include organising and running motivational sales meetings, individual field accompaniment days, regular performance review meetings, daily contact to monitor progress.
b. Preparing and maintaining regular sales management reports so that there is a clear record of individual Regional Sales Managers performance versus targets.
c. Use this information to continually drive sales team performance improvements to beat sales targets and adjust skills to the ever changing requirements of the market.
d. Manage the day to day activities of the sales team to achieve targets and maximise sales and margins. Where performance falls below an acceptable level to take swift, decisive and positive action to improve the situation.
6. Manage Dealers
Effectively manage existing dealers/distributors and identify and establish new dealers so as to maximise sales performance and achieve the objectives detailed in the Education Business Plans. This will involve:

Work with the Marketing team to prepare exciting plans and initiatives that will raise the profile of our client in the European education market.
8. Sales Forecasting and Reporting
Prepare accurate sales forecasts by market and product group as part of the Annual and Strategic Plans.
9. Market Intelligence
Seek out and report on changes in market conditions and competitor activity in the European education market.
The Requirements
1. Successful experience of selling manufactured products into the UK education market.
2. Demonstrable and proven ability to build sales in European export markets using both direct reports and dealers.
3. Fluent in French with German being a big bonus
4. IT literate.
5. Very positive approach with high level of drive and enthusiasm.
6. Experienced in selling a manufactured product where key benefits are highlighted by product demonstrations to customers.
7. Ability to manage a team of Regional Sales Managers based in the UK and around Europe.
8. Inspirational, hands on leader.
9. Ability to grow in the role and take on further responsibility.
