External Public Manager Analyst

A global investment manager located in Kirkland, WA is seeking an Analyst to join its external public equity manager team.  This position is responsible for the on-going relationship management and overall monitoring of the organization’s external public equity managers.  Responsibilities include:  coverage of all public equity relationships, deep understanding of the manager portfolio, providing quantitative portfolio analysis, preparing manager meeting agendas, sharing manager data across the team, and coordination of business and administrative issues.

An important focus of this position will be communicating regular updates of the organization’s external manager portfolio to the broader investment team, as well as escalating issues and recommendations to senior management.  This is a great opportunity for a career minded individual to make an immediate impact as well as the chance for long-term growth. 

Primary responsibilities include:

• Shared responsibility for developing, overseeing, and maintaining relationships with external public managers including maintaining regular contact, monitoring and tracking portfolio changes, investment opportunities, and business issues, performing attribution analysis and ensuring overall compliance with IMAs and related guidelines. 

• In conjunction with our external consultants, monitor manager performance, business and personnel issues, on-going due diligence and prepare recommendations when appropriate.

• Participate in the manager evaluation and hiring process for new or replacement managers in consultation with consultants and the internal investment group.  Continually expand manager network and understanding of manager universe-by-mandate to pro-actively prepare for manager changes.

• Prepare pre-and post-manager meeting materials including meeting agendas, portfolio analysis, and manager write-ups.  Document meeting highlights in internal manager database. 

• Design and create ad hoc reporting on manager exposures including sector, country and individual stocks.

• Prepare materials for quarterly meeting by working closely with colleagues to create agenda, communicate key issues, provide performance analysis, review mandate level analysis, and update on progress of on-going projects.

• Work with internal groups such as legal and investment operations to ensure external manager compliance with IMA and related guidelines.

• Communicate current manager views to internal investment team on a pro-active and regular basis. 

• Continually look for ways to evolve internal processes by benchmarking current practices against industry/market, and prepare recommendation for process improvements.  

• Review current database information and make recommendations for future enhancements.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, or closely related field with 3+ years relevant industry experience

• Excellent quantitative, problem solving, research, and analytical skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

• Detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects at one time, work independently, and operate effectively in a team setting

• High ethical and professional standards

• Experience with Bloomberg and FactSet a plus

• CFA designation a plus

• Potential for minimal travel
