Facilities Technician

Job Summary:
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janeila Farm Research Campus (JFRC) has an opening for a Facilities Technician (Lab Equipment) working in our Facilities department. This position reports directly to the Assistant Chief Engineer of Facilities.
This position must deliver Outstanding Customer Service, which includes, but is not limited to, the following: practicing problem resolution and working toward solutions that are mutually satisfactory; providing responsive, timely follow-up; being responsible for ones own actions and taking responsibility for overall operation of the laboratory and facility equipment. The Facilities Technician will recognize the unique elements of the JFRC culture and perform all responsibilities in a manner that fits into that culture. The ideal candidate will approach tasks with team spirit dedicated to enabling the scientific mission at JFRC.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Performs a wide variety of maintenance and repair work as directed by the Chief Engineer and the facilities Lab Technicians.
- Maintains and repairs items listed in summary section, as well as repairs and maintenance on other minor building equipment.
- Performs minor electrical repairs, such as replacing switches and wiring associated with scientific equipment.
- Performs minor repairs to laboratory refrigeration equipment and other lab type equipment.
- Will perform preventative maintenance as directed by the work order management system and senior lab technicians
- Repairs laboratory sinks, faucets, and other lab type fixtures
- Inspects and analyzes equipment and diagnoses trouble or malfunctions and makes necessary adjustments to minimize service interruptions and equipment downtime.
- Provides technical assistance to laboratory staff and other JFRC staff as requested.
- Collaborating with JFRC staff to resolve issues.
- May be required to provide “on-call” support for after hours issues that may arise within the facility as related to lab equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years experience working with mechanical, electrical, plumbing and control systems will be required.
- The minimum level of education for this position will be completion of high school. Any continuing education such as trade school will be helpful.
- Basic computer skills desirable.
