Shift Needed: Day shift M-F with flexibility to in-service off shifts.
The Facility Educator is responsible for the planning, organizing, developing, implementing, facilitating and evaluating all employee education programs throughout the facility or campus, in accordance with Company’s polices and procedures, current applicable federal, state, local standards, guidelines and regulations to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.
Reporting to:
- Directly reporting to the Facility Administrator and/or Director of Nursing for all coordination of discipline services and/or any education development specific or corporate functions processes or initiatives. Guidance and mentoring will be provided by Regional Corporate Educator.
Supervising:
- The Facility Educator provides education and training as well as support and guidance to ensure that all staff can meet their specific job requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and apply OBRA Regulations.
- Understand and apply principles of adult learning.
- Work in collaboration with all facility department directors in the orientation and education of staff to ensure all mandatory and regulatory education requirements are met within the facility.
- Conduct competencies in areas of nursing practice with attention to management of the medically complex patient, i.e. cardiac, heart failure, stroke, respiratory care needs (such as trach, vent, i.e.).
- Regularly conduct education needs assessment for facilities to assist in identifying areas for improvement
- Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the in-service educational programs as required or directed for compliance with Federal, OSHA, State and JACHO Regulations and corporate policy.
- Ensure Integrity of educational programs offered within the facility by:
- Obtain certification as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association and provide CPR certification for designated employees.
- Coordinate Employee Health Program and maintain employee records in accordance with regulations.
- Serve on assigned committees and attend designated meetings:
- Infection control
- Performance Improvement
- Safety
- Department meetings
- Regional Facility Educators
- Others as assigned
- Performance Improvement activities:
- Assist in facility’s Quality Reviews efforts when related to education and employees’ health
- Participate in Performance Improvement Committees
- Monitor using systematic process compliance of the education and employee health regulations of assigned facilities
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the administrator concerning in-service training programs
- Implement recommendations from the Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee as they relate to the staff’s educational needs
- Staff Development:
- Identify current employees to be mentored into both personal and career advancement towards leadership position within the corporation i.e. Assistant Director of Nursing to Director of Nursing or Certified Nursing Assistant to Certified Medication Aide to Licensed Nurse
- Mentor identified employee as he/ she develops into new positions
- Encourage personnel to get involved in planning programs, trying new ideas, etc., to enhance our educational in-service programs
- Maintain a productive working relationship with the medical professionals and other health related facilities and organizations
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility
- Promote the morale of all personnel and maintain a spirit of cooperation
- Assist in setting standards for department personnel
- Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals and attending professional seminars
- Attend and participate in professional associations’ activities and programs, to assure that you keep abreast of current regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to Corporate Education Development Department
- May be requested to work as a day supervisor when needed.
Recommended Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education:
- Registered Nurse and a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Professional Experience:
- A minimum of year of nursing supervision in the long term care setting
- Educator in nursing practices
Certification/Licensure:
- Active license as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice.
- Certified Instructor for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- Certification in Gerontology or Education by American Nurses Credentialing Center is desirable
- Memberships in professional education and nursing associations are desirable
