Family Office – Private Equity Specialist
The client company
The client company is a single Family Office based in Zurich with sister companies in the United Kingdom, providing investment advice and management support to the trusts and investment companies associated with the Principal Family Trusts.
The origin of the Family Office dates back to 1996, when it was set up to serve the family’s interests and provide Wealth Management, Tax, Legal and Family Services. It currently employs a team of 20 based in Switzerland and the UK who provide these services.
The Principal Family originates from India and is now in its 5th generation in the UK.The family wealth derives predominantly from a global fashion retail business founded in the 1960’s. The family trusts have a diverse range of investments across a number of asset classes, sectors, geographies and currencies.
Responsibilities
Direct Private Equity Investments (75 %)
- Joint responsibility (together with a colleague based in London) to advise on and manage a portfolio of existing investments:
- Monitor performance.
- Develop and drive investment strategy for value creation and exit.
- Update business plans and budgets.
- Take ownership and drive projects.
- Review and update structures (legal tax).
- Valuation and reporting.
- Appraisal of new investment ideas from the VC/PE space which are being proposed to the family office:
- Undertake detailed commercial due diligence.
- Prepare and review financial models and forecasts.
- Prepare investment memorandum.
- Initiate and manage financial and legal due diligence processes.
- Work with advisors to set up appropriate ownership and legal structures.
- Execute completion of successful investments.
- Find and identify new investment opportunities; entertain network within family office space and PE sector to maintain healthy deal flow.
- Develop core competencies and skills within the VC/PE sector which would be widely recognized and create overall strategy for the VC/PE initiatives.
Private Equity Fund Investments (25 %)
- Work with the Multi-Asset-Class specialist who manages the fund selection effort to advise on and manage the existing investments in PE funds.
- Appraise new investments into PE funds which are being proposed to the family office.
- Find and identify new investment opportunities and investment managers; entertain network within family office space and PE sector to maintain healthy deal flow.
- Develop core competencies and skills within the PE fund selection space to reflect PE as an asset class and complement the direct investment effort.
General remarks
- It is recognized that the candidate’s main focus would need to be in the direct space. The PE fund selection space will be being managed together with the fund selection specialist. The investment guidelines for the direct investments should be of an opportunistic nature whereas PE fund selection focuses on reflecting the asset class.
- The candidate would be part of the Investment Committee. Direct PE investments as well as new fund investments are vetted by the Investment Committee.
- The candidate reports into the CEO of the family office.
Requirements
Expertise / Experience
- At least 5 years in the PE space.
- Track record in direct PE investments.
- Extensive modeling experience.
- Good understanding of and interest in general economic, political and market developments.
- High context level understanding, quick thinker, reader and learner.
- Good analytical skills with the ability to summarize the central points of a project or subject precisely and concisely.
- Suited to and ideally experienced in a small office environment.
Education
- University degree in a relevant field of study (Finance, Economics, Business, Maths etc).
Personality
- Mature, self dependent and well presenting personality.
- Excellent communicator and collaboration oriented with the investment team, family and external contacts.
- Ability to lead projects and processes in a dynamic field with many interfaces.
- Suited to and steeped in an international context.
- Pragmatic and hands-on attitude, efficient and innovative.
- High ability to work under pressure, distinctive analytical skills, teamplayer, self-starter with enthusiasm.
