Job Description-Overview :
The Department of Environmental and Population Health (DEPH) is a blend of clinicians, basic scientists and field researchers. This diverse group of core and extended faculty has common interests and goals. The common threads of these interests are first, the preservation of the delicate balance between humans, animals, and their shared environments; and second, the promotion of the well being of groups of animals and their caretakers. Members of this department work with all animals, be they wild, captive, companion, or food and fiber.
The Cummings School Farm takes up just over 200 acres of the 594-acre veterinary school campus. In use since 1980, the farm raises beef cattle, sheep, goats, dairy replacement hiefers, laying hens, pigs, corn and hay. The animals are used extensively in teaching at the Cummings School in a variety of core and elective courses for DVM candidates, veterinary technician students and prospective students in the Adventures in Veterinary Medicine program. While most of the animals are raised for food and fiber production, certain species are involved in research projects and are provided to other research institutions.
Working under the daily supervision of the livestock and crops production managers, the Farm Worker will be responsible for:
- Carrying out all common and routine chores on the Cummings School Farm;
- Cross train for all other employees in order to fill in for their colleagues when needed;
